My san pedro! (pics)
    #3475614 - 12/10/04 12:58 PM (12 years, 2 days ago)

My san pedro has arrived from ebay! I have pics but I dont know how to resize them there bigger than 200K, I have a few questions, On one of my cacti there iss a little ball on the end of it, is it a pup? can i plant that? We are planning on making tea with some of it, but not right away, how do I store it and how long is it good for?

If some on can tell me how to resize pics, ill upload them.

Probably

>>can i plant that?

In time.

>>We are planning on making tea with some of it, but not right away, how do I store it and how long is it good for?

Storing tea of pedro is not generally reccomended, I'd say if you make it store it no more than a day in the fridge, some will say longer, but personally I just won't drink it past that.

If you freeze it you can have it last indefinitely. (within reason)

>>If some on can tell me how to resize pics, ill upload them.

Resize them in an image editor. Or email them to me and i'll do it and add them to your original post:

You can just crop and shrink in paint or photoshop. Leave the pups on there. How long is the cactus? I would just plant it or if its biger then 2' chop it in half and plant the 2 pieces. Next fall if you want you can cut off the new growth and trip off that. Mushmush.com tells you how to root it.

I can still remember my first Pedro showing up. Now it's over 4 feet tall and there is no way I could cut it down.

You should try to grow it for a year, you'll have more cactus and if you still feel like cutting it, you'll have a nice tip and rooted bottom. This will get you going on increasing you Pedro supply.

Thanks alot man, how would I store the pedro in it's regular state? In a cool dark place or should I freeze it? I heard mescaline is a very stable chemical.

why not just plant it, so you have a good stock and take from it when you want some.

They arent the best specimins to start growing with.. but it can be done. Your probably better off eating this bunch and buying some healthy tips or logs down the road if you want to make the investment.

If anything cut that one nice log in half, let it calus and plant that then eat the others. Make sure you plant right side up.

Storing them in a cool dark place will work fine.

What are you talking about? These cuttings look perfectly healthy and will grow without any problems whatsoever. All I can see are a few healed scars here and there as well as a bit of a dehydrated state, which is normal during winter dormancy.

There ugly first of all, who wants to look at gnarly logs. Also they wont put on much growth this season because only one has a pup and the rest will spend time making pups. If you buy some tips they'll put on a good 8-12" in one season and mabey a few pup's if you load up the ferts.

It's almost winter right now so growth is irrelevant. Winter is a great time to root cuttings. Just leave them alone sitting in the soil in a sunny window and don't do anything until spring.

Scarring shouldn't bother you. It gives plants character. Besides, new pups from these cuttings won't look any worse than new pups from any other cutting.

I have to say those cuttings don't look perfectly healthy to me, but I would be interested in seeing how they do

well i would have to say Grower is 100% correct, the top two cuttings look like they were thrown down a hill or they used some sort of Fred Flinstone animals to chew the cutting free of the base. :chainsaw:

i would also check them for spider mites if you are going to try to plant them.

i would rip the pup off the top cutting, and then i would eat the top two cuttings, they look too fubar'd for my garden.   not saying fucked up plants won't grow, but its counter productive to start with bad stock, and

i swear people send such bad cutting cause they think they are going to be ground up anyways.?

i have worked with plants for years and i can't figure out how people fuck up cacti like that, i just got some in the mail and they looked a 100% better than yours and i still thought mine were bad. they had a few cuts on them and they were chalked full of mites, gee thanks!

and cacti don't normally have cuts or look dehydrated, if they are properly kept. and a properly kept cacti is bound to have more actives than a f'd up scrub, stressing is on thing, but damaging is another.

good luck 00

Don't worry, my San Pedro looked worse than that and it's doing great now.
