all i gotta say is for every cylinder you got take 1 inch off teh penis
but if ya going AWD/4WD its probably so you can use it for somthing. in which case 4 cyl. and 8 cyl. are not much diff. can get some bitchin 4 cyl torque kings, jsut wont go up to 150mph like them big ego trucks do
but i like speed as well go for the big boys.

NO recalls on the Talons anymore, there were some but its been so long ago they should have been taken in to recall already by the previous owner. I would look for a 1990-1991 eclipse/talon. The motors are 6 bolt. the 93-99 motors are all 7bolt motors which have been prone to crankwalk... AKA- blown motor. the 6 bolt motors have almost no history of crankwalk. I didnt really have too much trouble with mine... I DID blow my engine, but that was my fault. I did not do enough research before i started modifying the car. So, if you get one, and want to modify it, do ALOT of research, there is SO MUCH information online about it. AWD transmissions have a history to break. the FWD transmissions are solid- and rarely go bad. Now if you do some research on these cars, you will commonly hear the words "lifter tick" This is a rapid ticking sound that comes from the top of the engine while it is idling. It is nothing to worry about, just some find it annoying. If you buy one, make sure the timing belt has been changed on time, along with other normal operating maintence. If the oil hasnt been changed normally at 3000 miles everytime, dont buy it. The turbo suffers alot when it is run with old oil. Most importantly. If you choose to go with a DSM ( Diamond Star motorsports, this is the short name for eclipse and talon) find one that was owned by an adult, if you buy it from a teen, or someone young, your likely to buy one that has been ragged out. These engines, the 4g63 turbo 4 cylinder like to treat you how you treat it. If you abuse the engine, it will fail on you. If you take car of it, it will treat you well. --Ex: when i bought mine, i bought from a 50 yr old man who bought it in 1990 brand new. Not a single problem with it at all! but I jumped the gun and raised the boost on it without adding proper supporting modifications such as bugger fuel pump and bigger injectors. In the long run, I melted a piston. Good Luck and I hope you go this route, i'm glad i did, but i wrecked mine. They are awsome cars to drive. Oh yea- If the car has alot of miles, besure the headgasket has been changed. If it is the original head gasket with 150k plus miles and it takes a crap on you, you gotta pull off the Head to replace it and auto mechanics charge big bucks for that just like they would any other car. Happy car shopping Here is a picture of how well taken car of mine was BEFORE the wreck. You can see how perfect the paint was, it was original! http://www.shroomery.org/forums/files/04-53/422058977-WRECKK.jpg

Oh I really love the original Cooper. It's fast, economical, and nimble.. but you're going to have a bitch of a time maintaining it.

Because it's 30+ years old and it's European. Parts will be hard to find and everything in it that hasn't already been replaced will probably need to be soon.

I thought there were updated versions though? Like some were made in the 80s also. I wouldnt mind getting a supercharged 2003 sport with a 6 speed tranny. If I can land a 40+ hour a week well paying job with my current boss next spring.....I'll be allllllll set for a mini.

Hrm well there certainly aren't any from that era in the USA. Yeh, go finance the new one if you get that job. They kick ass.

a bicycle.
Much better form of transportation than any of those you listed. You get healthy, its fun, its waaaaaaay cheaper to buy and maintain and you look way more fuckin cool biking in the middle of winter than wimping out and driving.

I'll have to give biking in a -15 degree windchill a chance sometime , I bet it's much more thrilling than going 120+ on an empty highway.....well, empty 'til I meet the back end of a truck

Anyone know anything about V6 VW Golfs? I mean, do you have driving experience with them or know someone who has? They are my newest fascination...

Fair enough, I guess most winters are harsher than the one out here in Vancouver, but for the rest of the year bikes are the only way to go. A bus pass is nice when the weather is really bad.

If I lived in a large city, a bike would be key, but, I live 22 miles from school and my work is about 65-70 miles away. It's sad I dont live in a city really; walking/biking all those extra miles would really help right now.
