Router configuration
    #3473411 - 12/09/04 09:41 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

Soon I will be interviewing for a job and they will be drilling me on DSL technology, router configuration, domains and DNS issues and general ISP connectivity type stuff.

I've done my research on DSL and I have a good grasp of network topology, protocols and addresses I think.  Whenever I try to read up on router configuration, I find a lot of highly technical stuff relating to Cisco hardware specifically.

My question is, does anyone know of something good to check out or have any advice on what to study that will prepare me for this interview?  I know what an IP address is and i'm familiar with the concept of subdividing networks.  I know sort of what a subnet mask is (but not really).  I know what a MAC address iss.  I know how to use ipconfig (sort of).

Can anybody throw me a bone?  I'd appreciate it.

If this is a tech support job, they probably won't really be grilling you that hard. I worked tech support, and half the people they hire are as retarded and computer illiterate as the customers.

In the job interview, we had to take a computer quiz. 60% was a pass. The questions were things like "What does RAM stand for?", "What's an operating system?", etc...

Needless to say, I got 100%, and they hired me. But it was a shitty, shitty job.

Thanks guys. Blink, I tried to download that cisco guide from suprnova but it's a pay site. Could you possibly email or yahoo it to me? That'd be sweet.

Phluck, yeah I've had tech support jobs before that were easy to get into the door. But this one looks like a different story. The company has been turning people away left and right because they dont have the connectivity skills. It seems like a great comp. to work for but it's hard to tell just what they're looking for.
