Fourth flush: caps are darkbrown
    #3468632 - 12/09/04 03:04 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

My cake is currently producing its 4th flush. There are a few pinheads now, the largest being about 3 cm.
What strikes me is that the caps are darkbrown, unlike the previous flushes (the usual color is yellow / brown).
The strain is psilocybe cubensis. I do not notice any contamination, the cake is still very white, despite dunking the cake 2 times.
Does this indicate anything or what?

Thanks in advance!

I wouldnt worry..does the outter edge of the cap look kind of wet and transparent? Darker brown caps can sometimes be high humidity..the caps would probably seem wet and slimeyish but not really slimey. I wouldnt worry either way..if they are bad you will either see or smell something odd.

Thanks for your reply. The caps do not look very wet or transparant; however, quite a lot of myc is (now) growing on the stems and that's usually an indication of high humidity. I'll lower the humidity somewhat.

Its not an indication of TOO high of humidity, just high humidity which is good. There should be myc growing on caps. Your humidity should be at 95-99% for cakes..I wouldnt lower your humidity. Eitherway like I said..I wouldnt worry..flushes can definatly look different colors from eachother. Until they get slimey though no need to worry.
