high school shroom project

Did anyone else catch this story about a kid in New Jersey that made a biology project about mushrooms that got no credit because it was about evil drugs?

I read this and this has got to be the stupidest thing...It has liberal communist socialist, wanna strip U of your freedom of speach all over it. I am getting to the point, that I am getting so sick and tired of the way our country has gone, ever since we had that communist Clinton/Gore in office for 8 years man look at the damage those two have done...Just about every body is a fucking liberal now. and these kind of people are so confussed, they believe everything the government tells them, STUPID, can't think for themselves.

God, why don't america change the whit house to the red house, I mean we are almost a communist state now as we speak. Anybody notice all the camera's going up all over the US?? that is so they (government) can spy on U and send out the red army to stop U from having fun.

I feel for this kid and am glad to see he has a backbone and refuses to back down from these socialist democratic wish that Gore would have been president so we can all be slave's, type people.

And one more thing I'll add hear, does anyone really believe it is a bad thing to recieve a tax cut?? What, people don't want their money back? if U believe this then I'll buy U a plane ticket to China so U can enjoy living in communism.

I say next year that all kids start a revelution in school, everyone should write a paper on shrooms. now that would be cool. Kid's I incourage U to not allow these liberal democratic socialists to brainwash U. U do have rights and if U don't exercise them, then they will be takin away from this soon to be communist government of ours.

What does this have to do with socialism (means of production owned by the people) exactly? Or are you just venting/scapegoating just like everyone else? The Drug War was not implemented by the Clintonoids - it was escalated by them, but do not forget the roles of Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and George Bush in our current prohibition. Certainly the new president isnt going to change much - in fact, he'll probably take it further & get further and further involved in Colombia (our next Vietnam). Do you even know about Bush's drug czar? He makes Barry McCaffrey look like a pothead.

Conservatives have just as much to blame for the Drug War than the liberals. You dont see the Republicans pushing for legalization. Quite the contrary - they want to build more prisons and invade foreign countries.

What does China have anything to do with our drug war?

What the hell are you talking about? Capitalism is the ruler of the land in the U$A (and 99% of the rest of the world). Maybe you should look into how profitable the drug war is for private industry (arms manufactures, prison construction, pharmuectical companies, law enforcement agencies, etc.) The Drug War also gives the U$A a pretext to invade other nations in the name of imperialism (Colombia for example).

I think what we are seeing is THE FLAW OF REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY - the notion that other people know what's best for us and will always be benevolent and wise (and if you have been paying attention, you'll know is total bullshit.)

I don't know, in my state, Colorado, the state legislature just past a bill to put cameras as every intersection to supposedly allow the light to change when cars are stopped at the light.  Bullshit.  They just want to catch people running red lights.  Not exactly an invasion of privacy, but its a step.  Oh and some republicans are lobbying for legalization of marijuana, at least for cancer patients.  It was voted and passed that designated diseased people could sign up for a marijuana posession permit and would legally be able to posess marijuana, up to 6 plants per person and I forget how much "processed" bud.  The whole deal is still under construction, meaining you can get the card, but you can still get arrested for posession :frown: (nothing like signing a form saying your gonna break the law :smile:), but its mostly the democrats keeping it from becoming refined at the moment.

Tired of pimping yourself on the corner to afford spores?  Well throw out that red dress and go to the FSR, for spores even you can afford.

A teacher telling a student that he/she cannot write a paper on shrooms, has nothing to do with the 'drug war'. Clinton has done more damage than all the presidents combined you idiot. Actually Taz, I disagree. I posted the article in hope of showing how the war on drugs does more harm than drugs themselves. I define "the war on drugs" as the laws that have been foisted upon us, and the hysteria created to justify those laws.

This is an example where scholarly research about mushrooms was deemed inappropriate out of fear of giving the impression that the student (or school administration) was condoning the use of mushrooms. That would be the same as saying a biography about Van Gogh would encourage kids to cut off an ear.

The drug hysteria is allow the man to try to censor what information we put into our heads. Shouldn't we be as free to study mushrooms as we are to study Impressionistic painters?

I believe what taz is saying. Everytime I see a big cocaine bust or some drug lords being caught I get sad. It makes me sick how much control they have over us, and its continuing to grow, and some people are so clueless about all the issues and trust the gov't so blindly it makes me scared for the future.

When I did A-Level chemistry, tried to persuade my techer to let me do a project examining the concentration of LSA's in various strains of morning glory. Not suprsiningly though, they wouldn't let me, and I ended up having to spend 2 weeks extracting caffeine from various drinks...

They were more than happy for me to casually play with benzene though, and we had pretty much free access to lithium and sodium, most of which ended up being thrown into a lake (ooh.. look at the pretty sparks..)

Yea, that ranks up there with one of the dumbest things i have ever heard. how is the military even remotely socialist? there is such a defined "class/rank" system that it puts our federal beuracracy to shame. seriously, get a clue before U go saying really dumb things like that. That's not what socialism means. Before you call someone an idiot, be sure you have your facts right.

Socialism is when the means of production is owned and operated by the people; when the full-fruits of one's labor is not taken by some factory owner for his or her private wealth but given directly to the workers - to the point where worker's control the workplace not the bosses and there is democracy in the workplace. This is the abolishment of capitalism.

In some branches of socialist thought, there is government intervention and governmental reformism but not all - most ideologies are anti-authoritarian and decentralized. Most are revolutionary not reformist. You should look into what the saying All power to the soviets really means before you spew your misinformation. (do you even know?)

The former-USSR and China are not socialist; they merely have co-opted the name at the expense of the people. In reality, what is seen in China (which you foolishly you base your opinions on) is nothing more than State Capitalism.

So, Taz are you going to answer any of my previous questions? (I doubt it.)

Ninety-nine percent of the world isn't capitalist. The developed nation's are for the most part, however. Also, it's quite true business benefits from the drug war, but so does the government. Corporations give money so that they can benefit from it, the politicians collect the money so they can get re-elected AND pass legislation taking away rights.

Representative democracy has it's flaws. In any situation, someone is going to be on the short end of the stick. You can choose who represents you, and you can influence what decisions they make. What exactly do you propose to replace representative democracy with?

East Berlin was completely blanketed in camera's when it was under a communist regime. The camera's in high schools, and other public places aren't there for capitalistic benefit. Camera's in your personal business are there for self defense.

Anti-smoking laws don't benefit capitalists, quite the opposite. Setting the drinking age to 21 doesn't benefit capitalists. Banning prayer from school doesn't benefit capitalists. You can go on and on with "social laws" that don't benefit capitalism. There IS a lot of corruption between the government and business. Thats undeniable. But to say everything that's done, is done to benefit a business is a bit drastic.

Tax cut's are to keep the economy from going under. If the tax cut fails to right the economy, Bush won't get re-elected. This is actually one of the few things that the legislators have done sort-of right.

this is not a flaw in democracy this is a flaw in the american public. Big companys don't pay you to vote for a certain senator if you really gave a shit about drugs laws you would get involved in your local branch of the libritarian party. Granted there is alot of coruption but if you pick a staight shooter who cares about the future of this country (i.e. Brown) then it defeats soft money. Well back to work.
