Let colonzied bulk substrate sit 5 weeks?
    #3464870 - 12/08/04 03:45 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Would it be wise to spawn some grains to some straw and let it sit in a rubbermaid for 5 weeks? i'm sure it would be fully colonized after two weeks but could it sit there and be prime for pinning initiation for an extra few weeks? i'm going away for five weeks and was thinking about starting a bulk before i leave and then initiate pinning when i return...is this wise or should i just do the patient thing and wait till i get back? any thoughts?

Better to wait until you will use it while fresh. It you still want to do it, you can try placeing it in the fridge and out it the garrage depending on temps. Once in a 35 to 45 deg environment it will in effect go into dormancy for the winter and nutrient untilization is slowed dramaticly.

You should go for it, just dilute the grain to straw ratio, and lower the temps a bit, so it colonizes slightly slower. This way it will be ready for fruiting when you get back.

I've be kind of worried about if growing a bit to much, it'd kind of be like overlay city but id personaly just put it in the fridge or do like shobimono says and lower temps. to allow slower colonization, but if u dont lower if enough then ull have to case it again, too much myc. growth, like a blanket of mycelium, i donno, post back when u get back and let us kno what happens, im curious, gl

I agree with dobinky, gl and damn, i just thought, if u have anything else ur growing around ur tub, u might want to move it in another room, just incase it decides to start cultivating Cobb Webb or something or the sort, doubtful, but being a little careful never hurt.Gl :shroomer: <----(you soon?)
haha, later

Might as well have at it. If it overlays you can deep scratch. Since you'll be gone the temps in the house will pry be turned way down anyway, so it might take 5 weeks.
