Pcubes in WB/no casing?

Sorry for the newbie type question- just trying to get some wise advice for a little problem.
I did search, but couldn't find very much.

Ive got shitloads of wheatbran, a petri dish of B+ with a fair amount of pinning and an empty/sparkling kitchen.
Can I make a decent spawn or cakes with pure wheat bran, or will I just end up funky secretions?
All Ive got for a possible casing is a pile of pitch black carbon and some semi-charcoal/semi-pinebarkchips (all were dried or fried leftovers from a half-arsed idea at sterilizing potting mix pine chips as a substitute for sawdust or chips).

I've heard of wheat bran as a suplement for spawn, but as for the substrate itself...shit I would think that is highly prone to contamination. Do you have any acess to vermiculite? Maybe you could experement with a P.F. type of mixture (Verm/Bran). Let us know if your moist charcoal chips work as a casing but you might want to test the p.h. to see if everything is in order. Not realy an answer I know:)

p.s. is your b+ starting to fruit and if so how did it get into the pitri? I just wonder how you could have such limited acess
to normal everyday items that would nearly guarentee sucess, yet you managed to propigate cubensis on agar.

Thats a cool looking cat.

The dish arrived in the mail. Its a pain in the arse to get to it right at this minute (and light isn't probably what the doctor wants)so I can check; but from memory (yesterday morning) it was almost completely colonised, it had some moisture condensed on the lid, and it looked more cottony (Ive only ever seen Hypholoma mycelium and that was nowhere near as fine or fluffy).
Theres probably around twenty little pinhead thingies<1mm. Three of the pinhead thingies were around the 1mm mark and they have a grey/green/brown topmost section (abortions/fruits??). Ill check for sure tomorrrow morning.

I just realised the shop is open tomorrow so I can probably get some brown rice.

I _can_ get vermiculite and perlite, but I don't wish to use them.
