I don't think a coffee filter would come out of the PC looking good, even if it was several of them and wrapped in a lot of foil.

depends on how you use them. If you can use them as a filter without getting them wet they will work pretty well. For example with brf jars after they have been inoculated, if they are rubber banded on to the jars they work very well.

Tyvek is the only way to go. And everyone has access to it. Not only that it is usally free, but that also depends on your location. If you can't get it free from where you are at, check for people on here or the web. Very good source of information I hear.

I found a shit load of tyvek in my garage just from when we were building it.. probably about 100 yards and 12 feet high. I tried coffee filters one and it got SOAKED in my PC and just wasted my time.

Use tyvek or poly fil. Coffee filters work on pf jars cause pf jars have the dry verm layer and are pretty much nothing then a dust cover on them.

Get free tyvek at the post office it's free.

As mentioned above, coffee filters won't filter out contams.

Use tyvek if you can get it, or order synthetic filter discs. SFD's are only ~$1 apiece, and you can cut them into circles to make 6-7 lids from one disc.

These are my lids:

1/4" hole for self-healing injection port, 3/8" hold for gas exchange (covered by synthetic filter disc).

Not my idea; tek credit goes to TranscendingLife.

Sadly no.  A coffee filter doesn't have half the filtration rate of a filter disc.  Tyvek "works" in a pinch, but you'll never hear someone who's used a filter discs say, "I think I'm going back to using tyvek."    I don't know what kind of grow you have but if it's a hobby grow and you're on a budget, tyvek is okay.  If you're leaning towards a professional grow.  Filter discs are a solid choice.
