casing not co-operating
    #3460230 - 12/07/04 04:49 PM (12 years, 5 days ago)

Hiya,

I have 2 casings that have been in my terrarium for about 1.5 weeks, neither have shown knots or pins yet. I had another casing in with them that has already finished its first flush. Should I put the other 2 casings back in the incubator or cold shock them? The mycellium looks fairly uniform across the top although it's a dull white as opposed to the bright white it was when I first put them in... I don't think it's overlay as the layer appears very shallow... any idea would be appreciated!

Did you check Ph of casing material, before application?

You can get a Ph probe tester @ HomeDepot or Lowes - under $20.

Sounds fine. Wait a little longer. If you got one casing to flush then your environment is okay. Sometimes it takes a little time to show primordia. Any day now bro.

Curious; what strain did you get to flush? What strain is not fruiting yet?

EQ was the strain that flushed. I've recased it and it's already starting to peek through. The other two are MAZ.

Every strain is different. You shouldnt begin to worry untill after two weeks but it can take even a few days more.

How dull of a white is it, if it is so dull it is grey, then you may be trying to fruit cobweb.

It was a much brighter white when I put it in the terrarium, now it's dull white maybe bordering on grey in some spots. I'm going to give a few more days to sit before I'll recase it and see if the myc start growing again...

I'f its even you shouldnt add any casing mix. YOu'll be waiting even longer. I promise..keep up good conditions and the pins will come when theyre ready..

But hey what does I know?

Me? Of course I do I was refering to

"I'm going to give a few more days to sit before I'll recase it and see if the myc start growing again"

He shouldnt add any more casing mix if its already cased and comming up evenly as he said it was earlier. And definatly shouldnt re-case if that means scraping off old layer and adding new stuff. Either way its more work for the mycelium. Case once and patch only if it comes up uneven.

Do you apply your casing layer on dry, then moisten it? I think that doing that would get me the most even casing layer.

No The casing mix is moist when I put it on..but not as moist as it needs to be so it does need to be wet down alot. I mix it up moist but dry as possible then PC it in jars..it coems out much easier when drier as opposed to muddyish, plus it makes a lighter airy casing that holds water better. After casing I mist it down a bunch then it goes right into my fruiting chamber. My chambers run a bit hot and I can't cool them down so I need to iniate pinning earlier then usual.

As elgr said the purple caps are just from waiting longer to pick them..I wait that long for most of them. The first three pics are Brazils on rye and the last is Cambodians on straw. Got some massives out of that..

Those last two are 7 shrooms that were 288 grams wet..biggest was 56 grams. I wasnt to impressed with cambodians on rye though..kinda sparse and not so big.
