Sick of Jars
    #3459566 - 12/07/04 12:29 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

I'm fed up with jars. About a week ago I put an order into Mycobag for 10 large spawn bags and I got an impulse sealer off ebay for 20 bones.

I'm planning on using rye just like I prepare it for jars. I'm wondering though, how far do I fillup my bags? Anyone with experience?

good idea..i bought some oven bags.turkey size fucking huge..well i want to soak my wbs then put into the bag then pc it for an hour half
only cooking at 10 psi..but then if i do a bag grow it would take up my whole incubator..so my plan to do a bulk wbs grow is going to wait for another couple of weeks.. i would think maybe half way or so.. im sure you don't want to much might take to long to colonize

This doesn't really pertain to bags, but if your sick of jars you should look at this and give it a try. It cuts out the whole step of jars and utilizes a gladware/ziploc container for both incubating and casing/fruiting. Check this out:

im going to do a g2g with some Burma jars that are about done. With that in mind, colonization time shouldn't be a problem . I just want to make sure I get the most out of each bag.

Anyone used the large spawn bags?

I've used large sized reynolds oven bags and got those to work, but never used the nicer bags. See if you can get ahold of agar, he's a bag pro.

fresh, I'm going to use half a quart jar of colonized rye/millet to spawn into the mycobags.

I'm guessing this ratio is a little overkill but I'm just looking for fast colonization. It is common knowledge that you can not only spawn with mycobags but germinate mycelium from spore inoculation as well. Hope that answered your question.

Stamets says that G2G can be anywhere from 1:10 - 1:40, 1:40 being much less likely to succeed. But, it is reported that a 50% G2G transfer can be 100% colonized in 6-9 days. That's pretty damn easy and quick to double your spawn.

So, can anyone tell me how far I should fill the bags?

Again, they are the large spawn bags purchased from Mycobag.com. I'm going to turn this into a log for all of you log readers. I plan on using two large spawn bags to spawn 3 large tubs using eatyualive's double tub tech. Pictures and all.

What do you guys think though... poo/straw or just straight straw? Casing layer or no?

I'll go ahead and leave it up to the consensus, either way is fine with me. I just want to have some fun :headbanger:

What is bag measurement? Is it a filterpatch bag?

LOL, never bought from mycobag... so LARGE means nada to me.

I suppose they are about 21 high, 8 wide & 6 thick & filter patch is 3/4 up.

Rule of thumb, as much as you want, but don't obstruct filter patch.

Top of grain should stay about 1.5 to 2 inches below it

Forgot to add...... if you use large bags - near full of grains, raise PC time to 2 hours @ 15 psi. If your PC will do that. If it will not, go 90 minutes.

Mycobag expierience. On average I use 2 quarts per bag, I've done 4 quarts before, it works, add gypsum to avoid wet spot. 8 quarts will take you all the way up to the filter patch, so I suggest you not do it. Like I said I only do 2-4 quarts per bag, but at 35 cents a bag, i dont really care, not when each bag easily yields over an ounce.
