cocoa shells

i was at a landscapeing store today and they had these huge bags of cocoa shells(to be used as mulch) has anyone tried using this stuff in a substrate?

Don't you mean coconut mulch? If so, I was wondering the same thing.

I know coco shells are used to keep predators away from your garden. I think they might be to coarse to use
