i know the harvest season is over or almost over in most areas, but is it to early to plant an outdoor patch?

You could start a outdoor patch anytime, but don't expect any fruits till warm weather though. Also depends on your geographical location also.

I could start an outdoor patch in the dead of winter and the mycelium will survive?

I live in Pennsylvania, it gets real cold here in the winter.

Well I've not done any testing on extended below freezing temps. That's why I said geographical location plays a big part. That would make for some good experiments to see what the myc. can endure. I have seen it survive for months in the fridge at right above freezing. Maybe someone has a better answer for below freezing.

well my theory is if it could survive climates like new england and such they would occure here naturally.
And zeroArmy if you have spent cakes and casings pasturize some poop and make a new casing
It works I have done it many many of times. I think one of the best recycaling a mycoligist can do.
hope that helps

the only reason i'm afraid to use spent casings as spawn is contamination is easier with poo. that's why i'm using new jars to spawn as soon as they finish.

spray with 10/1 h2o/h2o2 and youll be fine
just pasturize the poop at 170 for an hour and a half let cool bla bla bla....
and you wont get contams
its really hard to get contams on pasturized poo really hard
if thier is no visable contams then it shouldnt contam
never has for me anyway

use the whole rubbermaid as the casing and the casing layer or the substrate itself will humidify it enough and if the walls are dry just mist and fan 3 times a day.
easy as hell
dont waste something that could give you great enjoyment

Right on bro.  Looks like I'm starting an inside patch then too.

... back to walmart.  They have to know something's up with all the shit I've carried out of their store in the last three months.
