I'm sure someone has already done something like this before, but here is my idea.

Go to a hardware store and buy a pair of peepholes. It's the device that you stick into your door to see who is outside. When you look through you can see more of what you would normally see... it crams in extra periphial vision. Well, what I want to do is drill these into a pair of sunglasses and get them lined up enough so that you can get this extra visual information... and have it in 3D.

It might take a few minute to get used to, but after that your vision would be greatly enhanced. You'd be able to see more of whats up, right, left, and down... plus when you get really up close to something it acts like a magnifying glass and you can see much more details that you would otherwise miss.

but everything seems so far away in those peepholes. it would be cool though to see it done. probably would make you flip your lid if you were tripping.

There is an interesting peephole that I saw at a demo house. It uses mirrors and projects the actual perspective to the viewer... and you are supposed to use the thing by standing 3-7 feet away from the device. It's super surreal looking, but the best part is you can turn the half on your side 15 degrees to the left or right and thats the perspective that you get. I haven't tried rotating the thing 180 degrees, but it would be cool have a device that turns your perspective of the world upside down in real time.
