Your life, your choices
    #3455936 - 12/06/04 07:14 PM (13 years, 7 days ago)

Due to familial, financial, and societal obligations, I go to college, taking vocational classes. I learn how to maximize my message, or rather, my client's message.  My classes teach me to impress information and cause the audience to take action, through both direct and subconscious cues, and attempt to inspire a certain state of mind. They do not spend anytime teaching concern for the morality of impressing consumption on audiences.

I strive for spiritual fulfillment, meditating in the zen fashion regularly, and try to take everything around me in, while not attaching myself to anything. I drink green tea regularly, because it seems the thing to do. I exercise regularly, am being taught by a Shaolin kung fu instructor. I find the discipline comforting. Before I sleep, I do breathing exercises and try to perceive reality completely.

All this is karma. It seems to me to have little more meaning than a flip of a card, and yet I can do nothing else.

Forgive me for wasting your time. My question to the Pub is this: Why do you do what you do? For moral, rational, religious, or hedonistic reasons? Are you involved in being what you most wish to be or think you ought be? Why or why not?

Simply because I can't do something that isn't me - I tried and failed.

I'm not always exactly what "me" is. I've got memories, and urges, and habits, and such but other than that...

Interesting. The purpose of my meditation and spiritual pursuits is liberation from delusion and ultimately self-realization, but that proves nothing.

White Spectral Dog: ho ho! I do not get enough sun!

Whoops! Wrong year!

You have not wasted anyone's time, as anyone is free to choose not to read what you have written if they begin to feel that such is a waste.  I applaud your efforts at an objective view of your own life, I think this is one of the foundations of why I use psychedelics, to constantly re-evaluate myself and whether or not I am moving towards my perceived goals.

That said; Due to familial, financial, and societal obligations, I went to college, initially studying the mind out of pure interest in the persuit of a degree in psychology, after two years of which I changed directions towards a business management degree in efforts to persue the dream I've long held since being a very young child, to run my own life and be my own boss.. an entrepreneur if you will.

Throughout the course of the business program, I had realized that the training I was receiving was geared towards those who wish to enter the worldwide corporate structure, inevitably requiring those persons to work their way up a heirarchy of power and money.. something I did not strive for.

So it has come that I have put my formal learning on hiatus and have begun my own entrepreneural enterprise by becoming a third-party subwoofer distributor in connection with TC Sounds, a company close to me through family ties.  I get my kicks out of persuing my own projects, and do not like the constraints of being told how to operate my life, or what objectives are necessary, other than those that I create for myself.

Through all this, I have loved, and been loved, but have also felt the bitter sting of confusion with relation to unrequited love and have realized that though one may have the courage to be ideal, in reality there is none to trust but ourself.  My personal ideal is to give others the benefit of the doubt whenever possible, live peacefully and at my own pace, and allow others to follow their own desires without hinderance so long as they do not infringe upon my own goals and existence.

Thank you for your thoughtful thread
If you would prefer it moved to S&P, just fire me a PM and I'll make it so. :sun:
