Diploid's Prediction
    #3455735 - 12/06/04 06:36 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

Fucknuckle:

And in case anyone is confused about our bet. It was about Dowsing. Not anything to do with God. It was a bet over a very real provable and tangible thing. That I have offered to settle in March.

I predict that, come March, Fucknuckle will renege on his agreement using Mystic's Standard Excuse #7 just like several other S&P regulars have done over the last couple of years.

I will bookmark this thread and bring the topic up again in April.

Exposing the truth has nothing to do with dragging anyone through the mud.

Dowsing is REAL. I know because I can do it...so can my father who used it as a pipe fitter to find buried water lines when there were no blueprints. I don't think it is mystical...I bet there is a sound explanation for it waiting to be discovered. I will go one more...give me a couple of welding rods bent to an "L" shape and I can teach anyone to do it quickly.

A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

It may be an alterior purpose to your actions, but that doesn't change the fact that your actions are also defacing someone's credibility.

I'm sorry, but this subject does not concern you personally and therefore it seems to me that you're just out to take your shot at kicking someone when they're down.

I apologize if you take this personally, it's just how it came off to me.

Dowsing is REAL. I know because I can do it

Why don't you go win the one million dollars up for grabs to the first person in history to demonstrate the ability under controlled conditions?

It may be an alterior purpose to your actions, but that doesn't change the fact that your actions are also defacing someone's credibility.

Defacing someone's credibility is beyond my power. People deface their own credibility by making claims of paranormal powers, then reneging on the promised demonstration.

Several regulars here have done just that. I'm just calling the bluff, once again.

I'm sorry, but this subject does not concern you personally

Eh? This is a public forum in which I participate. What concerns me here is whatever I chose to take issue with, and lies are at the top of my list of things I take issue with; be they deliberate, or self-deception.

If someone wants to say they can fly, they better not say it here and expect me to sit quietly by without asking for evidence of their claim.

Sorry.

And FN is going through some really hard shit right now, way more than any intellectual abstractions on a message board. Please peeps(this isn't directed at you JC) Let's just show some fucking compassion to a fellow human being going through a rough time

Sorry man i don't get pissed off much anymore but there does come a time to put all philosophical differences aside and i think this is one of those times, much  to FN in his time of trial and tribulation

I can list several the names of several here who have done just that, and in this thread, I predict adding a new name to the list.

Right. I AGREE that people deface their own credibility. And if someone's lack of credibility is self-evident, there is no reason for you to go out of your way to draw attention to it. This is why I consider your actions superfluous and unnecessary.

Can we not allow people to form their own opinions? Why do you feel the need to influence others' opinions of someone?

i too think dowsing is definetly real. it has been used extenisvely and sucesfully for thousands of years. ive read about it at my univesrity library and my impression was that it is more or less accepted as a real phenomenon in the scientific literature.

Im suprised its still in debate. Numerous individuals have made mad money tapping oil and water wells with this techinque and have consitently scored far higher than chance.

this is just from my own reading. As always various sources conflict. In the end you will believe whichever source suits your preconvieved wishes and prejudices.

ANd those who can and do use it will continue to do so succesfully, regardless of your choice.

Abuse your mod powers if you wish, but locking the thread to obscure the truth will not prevent me from bringing the subject up again in April, and linking back to the locked thread to drive my point home even harder.

Moonshoe, if this were true, someone would have won James Randi's money by know, don't you think?

Numerous individuals have made mad money tapping oil and water wells with this techinque and have consitently scored far higher than chance.

Can you provide a link to objective evidence of this?

The thing about that Randi guy is, he screens his contestants very meticulously... I've heard many reports from individuals saying they wrote to him requesting admittance to his little game and that he denied them even a chance to examplify whatever skill they believed themselves to possess.

Granted, those people could have been lying.. but that doesn't change the fact that I doubt the legitimacy of ANY such operation with such a large chunk of money at stake.

P.S. I have no opinion what so ever on dousing. I have never seen it work, and I've never seen it fail. The above response has nothing to do with my "alignment" on the subject of paranormal activity.

Just stating my take on why I think the "Well then they should just go beat Randi" argument is kind of empty.

Right on JC! Although i must point out a redunDANCEY(sorry man, couldn't resist  ) in having the words superfluous and unnecesseary* in such close proximity

Fuck it man, the 10% beer is kicking in and i refuse to rely on spell check to correct my semantic and gramatical inaccuracy*

"Moonshoe, if this were true, someone would have won James Randi's money by know, don't you think? "

i think if it was not true, it wouldnt have been passed down from generation to generation for thousands of years, and i think that the numerous nomadic and tribal people who RELIED on it for survival would have died off or found new means of locating the most precious commodity in there world, water.

"Can you provide a link to objective evidence of this? "

a link, no, as the source im am drawing from is a book in the referance section of the university of winnipeg library. However if i had the desire i could concievably go hand transcribe the relevant section and post it for you, but...

nah.

again i dont know, nor do you. I have never used dowsing or seen it done. I found the section i read about it convincing and thurough, but again contradictory results and writing could be found.
