That sounds about right. Average they are 5-6 inches. They look mature when the veil tears and they open up. Unless you don't want to deal with some spores falling you could let them tear so that they put on a bit more weight and look more like mushrooms.

The cause is that tearing of the veil at that stage is what is supposed to happen.
