Efficiency! Shmeficiency?
    #3455490 - 12/06/04 05:51 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

I have a question for any of you folks who feal on this issue.... SO without further ado I present to you

Economics equals:

A)  GREAT, it is the Utilitatian notion where the greatest good for the greatest people as the end goal.  This is estableshed through each individuals demand for items, and the shifting supply of those said items.  (This can easily be expanded into negative externalities)  Whoever values something the most should be the one with that item.  Economics is probably the best way to govern the wants of socsiety.

B)  Horrible, Economics is a game rich people play.  It is a system set up by those on top of the status quo to protect it.  Economics is no different then any other game people play.  This a game that people play so thy can be the haves instade of the have nots.  (Like the political or religous games).

I got two huge cents on the subject, but I am pretty curious on what other people think of the economic notion of efficiency as a goal.

please get a spell checker.

the games are nasty
have to keep alive and judge each situation on its own merit.
no single modality works for all situations
although spell checking helps a lot.

economics itself is neither good or bad.

there is more than one kind of economic philiosophy,

the current capitalistic one maintains that for each resource available the greatest possible profit should be achieved through its use.

this if not stopped will lead to the destruction of the enviroment, and life on earth as we know it.

An alternative form of economics would wiegh short term profit against long term considerations like, say, the survival of the planet and humankind.

in summation, capitalistic economic theory =  :crazy2:

Everything I post is fiction.
