This friend of mine would like to know how long, approx., will it take for the jars to cool down completely so that they can be innoculated after boiling them? 3 hours? 10 hours? Anyone know?

At least 5 hours if left in the PC(as it should be done!).

I find 3 hours is long enough but if you are in a hurry you could always speed up the cooling process using a cooling unit often referred to as a 'fridge'.Usually I just set them on the counter, it's always worked for me!

Play it safe and let the jars sit overnight. However, if you've done your sterilization during the day, 5 hours or slightly longer is a good wait.
