flushes and potency
    #3452974 - 12/06/04 02:41 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Hey, ok so i have a casing that just finished its 4th flush. My question is is each flush considered a generation. Meaning after the 3rd flush they start to lose potentcy? Or should i keep this casing as long as i have room for it? I was gunna toss it then i decided id ask and see wut was up. Thanks

I just read something tonight about someone mentioning that. The topic about casing size being proportional to yields. Before now I've never heard such a thing and I will always keep my casings until they no longer flush or contam. Even if they are less potent, they still contain psychoactive chemicals.

Yeah I've read tons of complaints from people claiming 4th and sometimes even 3rd flushes weren't as potent....???

a generation= a flush

not as of my understanding

every flush from the same casing is the same generation.

from what i understand, which I'm still wondering about, a generations is more or less every time u continue the growth of the myc such as with a g2g

Oh, i see what he was getting at. No generations are not classified by flushes. "generations" simply put are doing a grain to grain transfer. If you g2g to a new jar, this new jar is now a 2nd generation. If you g2g from this 2nd generation to a new jar, you're at the 3rd generation.

First generation is direct from SPORES.
If you G2G,liquid tissue culture or clone from 1st crop,
that is second generation, so on & so forth. IMHO

To many G2G's will get you some weird shrooms, after about 10 transfers.

Example

Called these EQ's, WHITE RHINO's & took a few prints.
Got a few new spore prints in trade, for fresh blood & started over again from spores.

Wise to print a few out of your first generation, for future use.

No sweat. Just keep track. You go beyond 10 generations & things grow weird. Just set a few prints back, Mark which generation & your safe.

Another example of inbreeding.

Wow, your FOAF goes for that many generations till he has problems? Is that with gtg?

Will those white EQ's consistantly grow white from prints? I would think so, but I'm amazed that with all the talk about making your own strains from mutants, no one ever mentioned overextending the mycelium as a way to do this (at least in the threads I've read.)

"A nation's hope of lasting peace cannot be firmly based upon any race in armaments but rather upon just relations and honest understanding with all other nations...

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed... The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. We pay for a single fighter with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people..."

I'm no wizard. Had a good agressive growing strain of EQ & just kept G2G'ing & after about 10 goes, shrooms started getting weird.

Stamets advises no more than 3 G2G's & I see why. That is, if you want to keep then pure to what you started with.

Hey Agar maybe you put an owl in your Avatar! For 2 reasons..

I gues that one or 2 big g2g can also cause mutations like when one quart of spawn must colonize 20 quarts of grain.

Pure in theory ofcourse.

Yea, I was told that colonizing a 10 gallon liquid culture for example (strictly hypothetical), would almost definitely cause some mutations to the cells.

I havent tried G2G yet. Ok so each flush is not a generation. i didnt think so but wasent sure. So that means no potency drop right. good thing i kept the casing. Gotta push it for one more. Thanks for tha info guys i love the shroomery =)

i like g2g i took 1 quart jar and spawned it to 1 pint jars it colonizes much faster than a spore injection
