Genetically modified cats
    #3444293 - 12/04/04 12:01 AM (19 years, 4 months ago)

A company called Allerca is genetically modifying cats to not produce allergenic dander.

Now the sci-fi geeky part of me is very interested in this. I'm looking forward to seeing what crazy pet mods they come up with in the future. Six-legged dogs? Fifty pound rats? Cool!

But of course there are all kinds of problems this poses, just like with GM food. And I'm concerned that they will make mistakes and produce mutant deformed animals, which I would consider a form of animal cruelty. And who's to say that the modified cats won't get some new disease when they're ten years old? I doubt they will wait for a cat's entire lifespan as a testing period before they start selling them.

Anybody have more thoughts on this?

I don't agree with it, evolution seems to have done a good enough of a job so far, why fuck with it?

The glow in the dark fish was all the rage a while ago, now it's time for another abomination!

I agree with it, I don't know the details of what can go wrong and harm humans or the chances of it happening but I like the idea of "making" a creature aned don't feel its imoral or anything. They need to make a animal with a human vagina

blinkidiot you seem like one of those people with a bumper sticker that would say "all the pro choice people are prolly glad there parents were" don't take that as a insult its just an observation.
