Slightly wet spot in casing turning blueish?
    #3451299 - 12/05/04 08:59 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

So my casing has this blueing going on on a spot that is maaaybe a little bit more damp looking than the rest of it, and a little more around the base of some pins. It looks like the slight blue bruising that happens with cakes when they're handled or dropped (or when shrooms are picked in general). Is this a contam or am i ok? I may just be paranoid since this is my first set of casings. Btw the casing is completely colonized by myc. Thanks...

its already a casing. a lil coir/verm/hydrated lime with a crumbled pf cake them some more casing on top. it colonized all around in only a couple days. do you mean maybe i should have cased thicker?

I believe that's what she meant, it just looks like the myc. really colinated the casing layer really well. That looks like normal bruising to me as well.

Ok, I might be wrong here.. but check this:

The red circle indicates where I see some bluing. Now, usually I see a blue tint starting on mine but this looks kind of a metallic blue.. kind of strange IMO, anyone else agree/disagree?

The blue circle I just put around some dead pins that you should remove after this flush.. also be careful of those ones down inside by the casing wall.. it's probably caused by light reflecting off the aluminium.

The pink I put in because it seems kind of green.. is that the aluminium of the pan, or is that actual myc that's greenish?

Perhaps I'm just an idiot who knows how to use circle in paint.. but then again maybe someone experienced like Hyphae or Anno should give this a look.

Either way, keep a close eye on that blue.

I didn't remove the blueish pins after i picked the flush. I will now though, it was only 2 days ago that the first flush was removed. Is there anything special you're supposed to do after the first flush of a casing? I always dunked and rolled my cakes, it seems like i should be doing something. Should all the pins be removed, or only the blue ones.

The green on the side was just a reflection or something that came out in the pic, there is no discoloring on that part of the casing.
