wel today i threw out 5 jars. they had slight colonization in odd spots, no mold, but definate bacteria. they smelled like rancid sour milk. the bacteria would have posed no threat except for one glaring oversight. i put too little vermiculite and too much BRF in it, the contents of the jars were like clay. there would have been NO air exchange at all! hence the colonized spots at the top of the jars and a few patches near the tops.
the jars were beond salvageable so i made a special compost heap out back. i dug a hole in a heap of sod, dumped in the cakes mixed with a spare bag of verm, a heap of peat moss, stirred it till it was all nice, then covered it with a thin layer of soul and dumped a bucket of water on it. probably wont see anything from it, but these ARE cambos and the substrate is still nutritional. just has a lot of bacteria, but then, so does cow dung. perhaps with natural conditions i might get a few small mushies. im gonna try again with much less brf. another problem could have been acess water, while boiling, the jars kept falling over. dahh! waste of time.
madness never slows down, it only piles up.

Well, damn! I just tossed a dozen jars of Tasmanians. Black pin mold in the honey-water.

i did just what you did about a week ago.. i found green mold in a few of my jars so i cut out the good parts and buried em, i found a green spot on top of the soil along with white spots so i scooped out the green, now its been a week and theres extremely rhizomorphic growing going on and no green at all... maybe the mycelia killed the green mold? anyways, today im uncovering the soil (its in my back yard with some cement blocks over it to block sunlight and keep moisture) and misting it a few times a day... gonna see if i can get some mushies out of that.. i think it should work...
