Which way is up?
    #3449538 - 12/05/04 12:26 PM (12 years, 8 days ago)

I have some confused little mushies. They can't quite figure out which way is up. One of my cakes is beginning to pin but they are pinning on the bottom of the cake, hehe. I dont mean just around the edges but most of the pins are on the very bottom of the cake which is sitting on a piece of aluminium foil. Well, it was, I removed the foil and they are now sitting on plastic lids. I assume the foil was reflecting too much light.

Anyways, I flipped the cake upside down and now what was the top is sitting on the plastic lids and the pins are now at the top of the cake (which was coincidentally the top during colonization).

I suppose my question is, well, I'm wondering if this will have any radical impact on thier growth now that I've turned thier world upside down. Should I just put them back in there the way they were and genltly lay the pinside down on top of the plastic lid? I'm worried that by doing this they will overturn the cake as they grow.

Thanks for any advice as it is much appreciated.

The opposite way things fall here on earth ......
You figured it out ... control where the light comes from , that is what tells mushies which way to grow .
Yes you may still get them growing from all sides of the cake , just go with the side that seems to be "smarter"  more dominant heading the way you want .
No this will not hurt anything , just a pain in the ass .

Go away from the indirect, difused light(IMHO) from window or you will continue to have this , go with a light above them if possible .

Hope this helps and is correct
Good Luck

You only need minimal light... a few minutes a day or extreamly dim lighting.
Excessive light can reflect(eg. your tinfoil base) and cause probs.
Sounds like you've corrected the problem... just reduce the light.
