if one only relied on logical/rational thought instead of imagination/dreams and the likes, would we even have the scientific/technological advances we have made today?

Not even................

a dream is the same as an idea. They are formulated in the imagination. Without that, one can only recieve data from the external and process it logically. There would be nothing one could invent beyond the logic of what has been inputted and what could be logically put togther anew from that based on pattern creating options also input.

Bottom line, you are talking about a human being a computer.

A computer can do what it is programmed to do.

My answer is NO

than why do people view it as"wrong" to discover the unknown, to use imagination and beleive in dreams and not to use logical/rational thought?

Thats the million dollar question Spud!

I'm a dreamer, a visionary, an idealist, and advocate imagination as it contributes greatly to the ability to problem solve and inovate.

Beats me why intelligent people poo poo it.  I don't!

Beats me why intelligent people poo poo it.

If they indulge in such insanitary actions to display immature behavior, then are they truly... intelligent?

i was watching beyond human doco the other night, was on what makes a true genius(how the brain developed or imagination?) and the example was on Eisenstein.
i can't beleive what a great mind he had, one of his statements that he thought by was "ask all questions that a child would ask".
just thought i would add it here.

Logic and imagination are not mutually exclusive. They are both forms of higher order thinking and often rely on each other. I don't think its possible to rely soley on one or the other.

Most inventions are the result of hard work and persistence. We only see the successful products and never see the hundreds of failed attempts.

I agree, that when creaitive imagination, insight from day and night dreaming are combined with ration and logic, they make a powerful team.

Logic and ration need ideas to put into application or they are useless. Ideas derived drom dreams and imagination need logic and rationing to put them into application or else they are useless.

Skorp,

I agree if imagination and the ability to dream were taken out of the equation it would be suicide. On the same note, if people only imagined and dreamed that would be suicide as well.

ya spud,

Einstien was quite the daydreamer. He said he use to imagine what it would be light to ride on a light partical. Cool Cool. He was a surfer ahahahahaha.

A lot of inventors got their ideas from dreams as well.

What about Kerris Mullis who invented PCR. He would (under acid) imagine himself sitting on a DNA strand watching the polymers glide by. He quit his job after winning the nobel prize and spent the rest of his time chasing women.
