If you had children and were breathing your last breath, what last words of wisdom about what you have learned would you leave your children with?

Life is a short, meaningless journey in which you will accomplish nothing fruitful. Smoke all the herb you can get your hands on.

"I love you."

The fact is, there shouldn't be anything "wise" for me to say at this point.. it should have already been said many times over in many ways.

If I hadn't been instilling that wisdom in them since day 1, it certainly isn't going to hit home through one sentence at the last minute.

This is akin to the old "philosophical one-liners" concept. If you don't have the depth and understanding to back it up, it is meaningless.

If you haven't been instilling that wisdom in your children all along, what good is it going to do to leave them with one cryptic statement that they do not know how to apply?

It's like telling someone who's never even seen a computer how to install a motherboard in one sentence. --GOOD LUCK.

""""It's like telling someone who's never even seen a computer how to install a motherboard in one sentence. --GOOD LUCK. """"

then if they was told, and one day actually SEE a computer, they all ready know how to install a motherboard?

The fact remains--even if they DO one day encounter that which you prophecized--that it is not simple enough to prepare one for with a single statement.

I would hope that the only thing left to say to them is "I am proud of you".

Just a thought, Trendal... doesn't that kind of imply a need for pride and an ability to impress?

I went with "I love you" because it bypasses a need for pride all together.

Just a thought.

"fruit basket" bypasses the need for all conventionality and logic, as well as providing an interactive mystery for my children to ponder

and when they lay on their deathbeds themselves, it may click suddenly, and they'll realize how much truth the fruit basket held

Indeed, deff.. in a way, I see your actions as an even better choice than mine.

But I also see it another way--that it may just confuse them even moreso in a time that is very difficult to handle in the first place.

But maybe that is what they need.. haha.

I'm sure we'll figure it out by the time we face this choice.
