 How to keep clean during bulk transfer?

I'm spawning my substrate straight to the bottom of a 50 gallon tub that is 3.5' feet long.
This is a very crucial part of the operation and very risky for contamination. What would be the best way to keep super clean while doing a transfer to a tub this size?

take a shower, wash your hands, and spray lysol around. colonized substrate is alot more resistant to contams than uncolonized grains. as long as your pretty clean you shouldnt have any problems.

what he said + wear clean clothes. And if you can do the mixing in the smallest room of your house maybe even a closet, and Lysol the air really good.
if you want it to colonize very fast use allot of spawn, so you can reduce the chance of contams, most say 15-20% is plenty, it is, but my house has a basement that floods allot, and there is allot of contams in my house, so i use like 50% spawn.
if you stay clean you don't need that much though, I'm just paranoid.

persopnally i do nothing more than wearing gloves, but i would advice you to spray the room with lysol and of course wear clean clothes,and clean the surface that u are working on

ya... put all your poop and straw or whatever in a glove box then shoce your hand in it....feel around for some peanuts to make sure its good...then add spawn! easy =) heh

Well as long as your substrate is pasterized and you wear gloves and do it as quick as possible you should be fine. But if the substrate was not correctly pasterized thats where you are going to have problems.

pasturize your poo straw say in 10 psi for how long in some water and pillow case? or just do it ina good old cooking pot

Here's what I think that I'm going to do:
Go get one of those underbed storage things (that will be as big or bigger than my tub square footage-wise). Then build a glove-box-lid out of it (only like 6" high) and then place that over the tops of my tubs as I work and mix in them. What ya think? I only have about 12% spawn, I wanna be careful.
Also, I need 44 gallons of substrate to cover the square footage at 6" that I'm doing. Is the only way to do that to use a large tub? I'd prefer to do it in the oven. Does anyone know the approximate liquid capacity of those turkey sized bags? If those could hold like 4 gallons then I'd do em in the oven, otherwise I guess I'm gonna have to fuck with letting them drain for a day, which I personally think sounds like a bad idea and a good place for it to pick up contams.

spliff. You dont need a glovebox. The whole purpose of pasteurizing is to kill off all the bad bacteria. You shouldn't pick up any contams if you pasteurize it correctly. The bacteria you didn't kill will defend the straw and let the mycelium grow. Good luck.

way over board.... just spray lysol..wipe everything down with alky...wait a few minutes for lysol to set (make sure no air currents if possible) then start mixing, blah blah blah, cover and your set to go....it takes a week or so for a contam to take over straw/poop, so your spawn will beat anything and youll be set.
