Is it possible to case pf cakes ?
    #3444445 - 12/04/04 03:22 AM (13 years, 5 months ago)

I'm getting ready to make my first attempt at the PF method, even after reading all the available info I'm kinda unclear as to whether or not it would be possible to case the cakes, I'm pretty sure it would'nt be, but is there any way I can increase size/yield by partially casing or is there a different method of introducing additional nutrients ?
Also, has anyone started off with grain rather than stepping up from cakes ?
I feel that I completely understand both methods, but I dont under-value the importance of first hand experience. Should I consider attempting both methods simutaneously ?

1st, you can case cakes. Most just crumble the cakes in a ziploc or other plastic bag, then spread that in your container and cover with a casing layer. This varies slightly depending on the casing method you are using.

2nd, an easier way to increase yields is dunk and roll. This won't increase the yield nearly as much as casing would, but will improve them with considerable ease(or so I understand.)

I, personally, just removed the lid the jars colonized in, removed the top layer of vermiculite, filled with tap water and added a cap of H2O2, then rolled in sterilized vermiculite. Sprayed the vermiculite down real well with H2O/H2O2 solution(about 10:1 ratio) then placed in fruiting chamber.

Hope that helps and good luck bro!

I just wasnt looking in the right places, I guess I assumed crumbling the colonized cake would hurt the mycellium.

Anyone have any feedback on what areas of the country / enviromental conditions make problems with green mold more likely ?

I think it's likely everywhere.  lol

So be clean.

The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. We pay for a single fighter with a half million bushels of wheat.
