I've seen 55 gal. drums used for petroleum products but where could I get ahold of a clean one. I have a 125,000 BTU burner and just need the drum for bulk pasturization. Thanks for any help...

Prepare to pay through the ass. For a steel drum from www.labsafety.com, it'll be around $100 plus shipping.
Maybe you could find a restaurant supply store (they use them for dumping fryer oil) or an industrial supply warehouse in your area?

dont even think of using one from the petroleum industry whether its new or used, you can find stainless steel drums from food service, there are loads of places that sell them, you can google teh query and find places that will ship, in my area we have a paper the both companies and individuals advertize in, I've seen several in there, as well as the farm bulletin and the local weekend paper
check your local phone book to see if there are any refridgerated warehouses, spice or food packing plants, these are also a good source

If you live in the Virgin Islands, check out the Island Trader. There is a guy that advertises in there that sells new 55 gallon drums (steel and plastic) for around $20 each. If you don't live in the virgin islands... well, can't really help you there...

AFOAF picked up a water tight wash bin at lowes for around $12. He ripped the label off long ago, but it's got to be at least around 55 gal.
I'm sure you'd have to be much more careful about the amount of heat you'd put in one place that with steal though.

The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. We pay for a single fighter with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people..." President Dwight Eisenhower, 1953

It is easy to get water into anything, very hard to get it OUT. I went this route years ago w/55 gal drum. Soggy 200 pound mess, in bags that you need a chain hoist to handle. If you are in a big city, look around, you can find used 55 G metal drums (non/fuel) at beer making, distillary places & lots of others. If you have the room & privacy, better to buy big old stove (G/sale $25), set on back porch, in garage, out building (or whereever), wire in & do bulk pastirizing in large metal pans covered with tin foil, in oven. WORKS GREAT Or if millionaire, get one of these (joke ):

This may sound a bit simple but what about goung to the hardware store and getting a metal garbage can.

You are going to find, heating a 55 G drum to 180F is a PITA.
Takes lots of propane, time & effort.
I cut drum in HALF. It went quicker, but still a PITA.
OVEN is way to go. It's cleaner, no dripping / draining.
If you use oven & substrate gets a bit dry, you can ADD moisture, EASY.
You will also find out, steaming drum of manure/straw, will DRAW gnats from 50 mile radius, like crack heads to a drug dealer.
GNATS ADD ANOTHER GIANT PITA.
No gnats with oven.
Just my humble thoughts, having been there & done that
Note gnat zapper
