Oven Tek

I was thinking about doing some g2g inocs and i came across this thread. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/show...&PHPSESSID= How many people tried the oven tek and got tons of contams? For the people that do use it, how often do you get contams? Also the tek says to put your oven on the lowest setting and my oven is digital so it can do anything between 100 and what ever the highest setting is, so what would i set it at. The racks can also be moved from the top to the bottom, so from that thread i would assume you should use the highest rack mount, correct?

Oven doesnt work 80% of the time, it convects heat, which moves air. Contams in air.

Doesn't Work, any positive accounts are luck, even if it's 10 years of luck, just do some searches and it's easy to see IT DOESNT WORK. A clean room would be better.

I have been using the oven tek in place of a glove box/flowhood for two years now. The only contams I have ever gotten were my own errors. ITs a principle of hot air rising from the oven and not allowing contams to "fall" on the media.
works great for me.

You should buy lottery tickets & gamble high stakes in Vegas. You are that LUCKY & would have piles of these. If it worked, labs would use an oven system, rather than flowhoods. They don't, whats that tell me? BTW, cool air flows into an oven, when hot air flows out. Meaning, contams flow in & you cannot stop them. CREDIT ANNO 100,000 possible contams per square foot of normal household air.

I've been using the oven tek for several years myself. This includes agar plating, grain to grain transfers and of course innoculations. Virtually zero contams. I find it hard to believe this is pure luck, this is a reliable way of eliminating contams in my experience.

The oven tek has worked really well for me, no contams. But I only use it for innoc. All my G2G or when it comes to opening a container that is sterile I use a glove box.

Maybe it has to do with the type of oven. In the tek captain said that he has left jars open for 30 min with no contams. That can't be luck. Diver and dmc, can you tell more details about it, such as were in relation to the oven you put your jars/agar i.e. above the oven, on the lowest rack, close to it, far away from it. What temp do you set the oven on and how long do you wait for it to heat up, and do you have convection ovens?
