The official bible answer would be (to paraphrase:
God made man unlike all his other creations and bestowed upon him free will, with which man is free to choose his path.
Of course, the bible is a silly thing

Actually God did not create Satan for the purpose to be evil.
Satan is a being that decided he was more powerful than God.
His name is Lucifer and he was the Angel that was God's best friend before the creation of Men.
Lucifer after taking one third of the angels with him told God that he would take control. That he felt self satisfaction was far superior to worship and Love. But the mistake he has made is he was created by God and can never take control.
God still loves Satan and would still allow him to return to God. But Satan is sure he can win. When in fact he has already lost.
The reason why the world is so whacked and evil is because earth is the domain of Satan and Man has choose to follow self gratification and lusts of the flesh.
While I am some what torn with the whole creation theory. I do know that there was a time when God walked with Man. God was a very close friend with Man.
But as before men, with the Angels God, has to allow freewill to choose over Love. Love is a choice. The Angles had a choice to love him or not.
Man was given the same choice and he choose Sin. That is why the world is whacked. It is ruled by Satan and men that choose not to live God.
But God still loves us and has made a way for us to get back to him. We must make a choice to love him and follow his ways. To turn away from self gratification and lusts of the flesh.

Why does children get raped?
Why does their parents get killed by bombs?
why do we have war?
Why are we sad?
why are the human race so evil?
if god is all nice why do we still exist?
why dont he do something?
who says he is nice and has to be nice and do things for the human race? who says god has to do something about all these things? why does god have to do anything for us? if god did everything for us would we even have to live anymore?
these are not gods problems but our own, something we have to fix.

People always ask these things, and I find those questions
silly.
People do these things, not god. You expect god to be some old man with with a magic stick that fixes people's shit around the world.
People make their own crap in their lives, and they are the ones you should ask: "why did you rape this woman?" "why did you kill this man?" instead of asking god "why did he do that?"
And besides, if we are talking about christian god, then there is
eternal life for all souls, and there is nothing to vory about by getting killed, or being poor, because it will all soon be over.
Too many christian expect from their god to support their materialism
and emotionalism. But their god talks about surrendering from all material and earthly battles and preparing for the next life.

It certainly makes a nice, fictional story, but nothing more. At least actual history of events on this planet have physical evidence to back them up. Give us one reason why we should think this actually happened.
