What's the deal with the Sunni's?
    #3441118 - 12/03/04 08:38 AM (12 years, 3 days ago)

Seems like the Sunnis are the ones killing motha fuckas every fucking day and trying to stop the election. Sucks to be the weak minority after Saddam was toppled, hah.

Violence in Baghdad Kills at Least 25 Iraqis

Fri Dec 3, 4:33 AM ET

By Andrew Marshall

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A suicide car bomber rammed into a Shi'ite mosque in Baghdad during dawn prayers Friday, killing 14 people and stoking fears that sectarian divisions over when to hold elections could unleash further bloodshed.

Witnesses said there were two blasts -- an initial explosion during prayers and a second blast as rescuers tried to drag out the dead and wounded at the mosque in Aadhamiya, a mainly Sunni neighborhood and guerrilla stronghold in northern Baghdad.

In another dawn attack in the southwest of the capital, gunmen fired mortars at a police station in the Seydiya district before bursting into the compound and hunting down policemen inside, survivors of the attack said. Eleven policemen were killed and six were wounded.

The insurgents also freed around 50 prisoners from the jail in the police station and set two police pickup trucks ablaze. Clouds of thick, dark smoke poured into the air.

In an Internet statement, the guerrilla group led by Jordanian al Qaeda ally Abu Musab al-Zarqawi claimed responsibility for the attack.

"The lions of al Qaeda in Iraq (news - web sites) attacked the headquarters of the apostates who sold their religion, honor and land ... and attacked the Seydiya police station, killing everyone inside except for two who fled," the statement said.

Guerrillas trying to drive out U.S.-led troops and overthrow the American-backed government of Prime Minister Iyad Allawi have mounted repeated attacks on Iraqi security forces, targeting police stations and checkpoints with suicide bombs and kidnapping and killing scores of police and National Guard.

In Mosul last month, insurgents stormed several police stations, looting them of weapons and equipment. Most police in the city deserted their posts and fled. More than 60 bodies have also been found dumped in Mosul, believed to be Iraqi soldiers and National Guardsmen abducted and killed by gunmen.

THREAT TO ELECTIONS

The violence threatens to derail Iraq's first democratic elections in decades, scheduled for Jan. 30. The U.S. military has acknowledged that insurgent violence will intensify as the poll approaches and has announced it will increase its troop strength in Iraq to 150,000 -- the highest ever figure.

Many among Iraq's 20 percent Sunni Arab minority -- from which the insurgency draws the core of its support -- have called for a delay in the elections, saying that violence in Sunni areas will prevent the polls being free and fair.

Sunni Arabs, who dominated Iraq during the rule of Saddam, fear they will be marginalised in the new Iraq, as the 60 percent Shi'ite majority exercises its newfound political clout.

Shi'ites, however, insist that the elections should go ahead on time, arguing that any delay would be a surrender to terrorism. Iraq's Kurds in the north say they are ready for elections, but would accept a delay if others wanted it.

Several Sunni Arab parties say they will boycott the elections if they go ahead on time.

In contrast, Shi'ites and Kurds are already planning how they can maximise their gains from the elections. Most Shi'ite parties plan an alliance to contest the election on a single slate, so that the Shi'ite vote is not split. The main Kurdish parties have already made a similar agreement.

Shi'ite and Kurdish politicians have been urging voters to register and prepare for the polls. But in several Sunni areas, voter registration has not even got under way. Guerrillas have intimidated election officials and told merchants they will be killed if they distribute voter registration forms.

Falluja, one of the main Sunni cities, remains a ghost town -- more than 200,000 residents fled ahead of a major U.S. offensive there last month and have yet to return. Other Sunni cities like Ramadi, Mosul and Samarra are the focus of frequent guerrilla violence that may prevent elections being held there.

Some Sunni politicians warn that if the elections go ahead but with many Sunnis unable or unwilling to participate, the insurgency in Iraq will only worsen.

That report has to be bullshit. No Muslim would attack a mosque, only the US does that. Muslims use mosques to attack from.

Are you not aware that Sunnis hate Shias? Are you aware that Sunnis masscared Shias after the first Islamic Empire fell after they helped them overthrow the government? Are you aware that Shias have always been put down by the Sunnis? What are you aware of? Conspiracy theories?

Sunnis attack Shiite mosques and Shiites attack Sunni mosques. Sunnis make up 20% of the population of Iraq. Shiites make up the majority. If the insurgents won like Zahid wanted them to, Iraq would probably become like another Iran which has a Shiite government, something Zahid does not want, since Zahid claims that Shiites are not Muslims.

Except the Shia have stopped their bitching and want the election to continue. They weren't cutting people's heads off non stop and if they captured anyone the clerics forced them to be released because they aren't radical fucks.

Now it seems the Sunnis finally can smell their loss of power and can smell their death. Also, Satan, can you find me some news about Sunni mosques being attacked by car bombs? I've been looking and so far I've only found Shia mosques. There have probably been attacks on Sunnis but so far I haven't found any, so check that out.

Yes and he was supported by a tiny part of the Shias and all the other clerics forced him to back down.
