ONO Contam! (with PIC now)

Hello guys and girls I made my first casing (corn) it was just below 100% colonized. People warned about contams and now I have it. There is white fluffy hairy mold on the surface of casing layer. I took it out of incubator. What is the best way to get rid of this? Delete casing layer and apply new? What is best way to take casing layer away? Any suggestions welcomed.... Thanks! EDIT : pic added And yes that casing layer sucked.... :P

Shit I dont wanna hear that discman come on! :P
It is cobweb I heard one of the less "dangerous", can I spray with h2o2?
Or take casing layer away, spray > fruit ?

if its white, it may be mycelium, if its grey and very wispy, its cobweb... its better to start over, you can try h2o2 but you may run into other problems if it starts developing little black pinheads at the top of the mold, toss it

I was trying to be stubborn.
I took it to the kitchen sterilized a spoon took casing layer away. Made a emergency terrarium with geolite water and H2O2, started spraying the corncake then I saw more tiny contams starting.. Tossed it.. Hurts...
I sprayed my TIT now with H2O2 solution and wiped after with alcohol cotton.. Hope the ev0l molds keep away from my other projects.....

once the molds are noticeable, they are difficult to fight.... it's usualy best to rid yourself of the tray than risk a bigger problem later.

Obviously my house was contaminated already, but are chances higher now for contaminations in the future?

In most if not all cases ... trying to kill your contam , just makes it spread all the faster and uglier. And puts you more at risk of inhaling it . It does appear it could be cob web mold , but I have had a couple of trays that looked like they were infected with cob web and were not . If you just cant pry yourself away from the tray . Issolate it completly away from the rest of your stock and see what happens , either way there is a lesson to learn . Just for shits and giggles , next time you make your casing , make it a little drier , most of the time when I have seen cob web mold it was when I got casing mix too wet . Better luck next time around
Ps this could also be from casing too soon , not being 100+5% colonized

Not necessarily . Just clean storage areas real good with some bleach or lysol (not both mixed ), make sure you are real clean next time , and try the tad drier prep of casing . I have noticed is better to be "slightly" on the drier side with casing when making it , you can always mist when layering it on your sub , but if too wet you cant not remove water easily . I learned this when I went from using an AC to a PC , AC's donot let as much moisture get into what you are cooking , where a PC does , so what was an okay moisture content in the beginng became to wet in a PC . Just an idea and a minor one that may just be the trick you need to keep it from happening again . By the way are you Pasturizing or Sterilizing the casing . I am a weirdo that does the "Sterilization" techniques verses pasturization methods . It is a lesser of two evils choice IMHO . Kinda like our last election

Happen to me to this past summer. YOU can beat this.I had to pull up all the old carpet.Replaced with tile.Wiped ceiling ,walls and mopped floor with 5% bleach/95% water.Still do the floors this way. Sprat alot of Oust around and bleach/water.

Good old Trip N D!
Yes you warned me..;) There was contam in the corn as well, but I think it started in the incubating jar already. It has been in there for 5 weeks or so actually.
I planned to be stubborn (before I noticed the other contams) and birth it in a separate terrarium (dunk in H2O/H2O2 and roll in verm)but decided not to take more risks when I saw more mold species.
Thought I was pretty clean when I started and inoculated but cant be clean enough it seems.
And your right bout the layer being to wet, it was. I sterilized it in the PC put it in a PP jar which I also use for cakes. But the jar came out with the sides sucked inside a bit it smelled chemical disgusting.. And indeed wetter then when I put it in there... So you suggest pasteurizing?
But im quit sure it was cobweb I compared it to pictures, def was no myc, the layer wasnt penetrated at all yet...
Aaah lol now I understand the "election" part, me thinking the most evil has won..
Thanks a lot!

Over time bleach will trash that new tile floor of yours Unless it is hospital quality corlan floor . I know I am ex floor installer . Use vinegar and water 2:1 , not many know this but it will kill most bacteria on floors , and cuts thru grease to .

"Do them in now. You were born to grow." thats what those molds are thinking too!
But I will succeed sooner or later! Must work on the patience thing in myself...

Im gonan buy some vinegar this weekend gonan use vinegar and H2O2 as standard. I like it better then more chemical stuff.
Actually Agar posted an article yesterday stating that one spray bottle of vinegar and one with H2O2 rule and make it cleaner then bleech!

Agar knows his shit , listen to him .
I am a weirdo .... I prefer "sterilization" techniques , most disagree with this cause you kill off "all" organisms including some benifical ones , but I know I have "clean" material to start off with .
Lysol is good to use to , especially if using kitchen to prep things .

Yes I noticed that Agar is a database of shroomknowledge, I keep an eye on him..
Lysol I guess its hard to get here, untill now I used 70% alcohol, bleech, and H2O2.
Bu why is it weird to prefer sterilization, I thought that was common in cuby growland?

it is....everything should be 100% sterile except a few grow mediums that should be pasteurized.

What makes bulk so resistant to contams and allows you to do big open grain transfers is the contents of other organisms that help out in keeping away contams. Pastuerization keeps these things alive while killing all of the bad stuff. Sterilization kills them all.
