no fruiting
    #3439174 - 12/02/04 06:28 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

I am a first timer. I am using two quart jars of popcorn and Golden Teachers.

Everything has gone well up to this point but the bastards refuse to fruit. I incubated them for 20 days, then cased with 50/50+ tek. A few days later I patched. The mycelium took over the whole casing fairly quickly. I saw alot of debate over whether to cold shock, so I comprimised and did it for 12 hours. I misted about once to twice a day with 20:1 h2o2. Its now been 22 days and still no contams, but no pins either.

Any suggestions on what I should do? Did I jump the gun on casing them? What should I do to avoid this in the future?

> what are your temps?
In the incubation stage about 82, in the fruiting chamber between 70-73.

> how often do you fan?
Usually about 3 times a day, I was out of town for 4 days so nothing then, but I do have holes w/ polyfil in the top and bottom, so it should get decent o2 as there are only 2 casings in a 31 gallon tub.

>what about light cycle?
Other than the vacation it was about 12/12, I don't have a timer and my schedule can be hectic, so sometimes its like 10/14 but not much more irregular than that.

>does it look a little yellow or brown on top?
No, there are darkish patches but I'm pretty sure its just the casing showing through. On close inspection you cant really see the spot.

I suppose I should also have noted that the humidity given off by the casings, combined with a high relative humidity where I live, made it virtually impossible to get the humidity down to 86% where I heard it should be. It hovers around 94 I think, but my humidity gauge isnt great. Also, not much overlay has developed, it mostly looks (to me, never seen this in real life) like normal colonization.

Thanks the replys are much apreciated.

sorry guy. I got wrapped up in a few things... have you read Hypheas info
on fruiting casings, I really dont see anything that may be hindering it other
than it simply isnt ready to pin yet,

pinning casings, this may help.

Ok fellas, just found first pins. I just suck at stuff so its side pinning. I think I'm going to birth the casings like cakes so the shroomies can grow. Thanks for the advice!

yeah... that may very well be it... you can always try scraping the majority of it
off, no guarantee it will work but you can also use the pieces of substrate
to inoculate grains (if you have a pressure cooker) or more BRF jars, a simple
glove box and hydrogen peroxide will help you get the job done.
