First-aid question: choking on something tiny & being alone
    #3438045 - 12/02/04 04:47 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

As stated in topic, your choking on something tiny, ex: something like a crumb or a droplet of water and your alone so you cant get any immediate help and to add to that you coughed to the point where you have no air left.

However if your wind-pipe opened you could technically breath with the crumb or whatever because its so tiny, its not that its blocking the air passage but its simply triggering your wind-pipe to close from irritation.

So the question is: How would one go about opening the air passage if the wind-pipe wont open from irriation? (even after the object has left the wind-pipe).

btw I already know about the heimlich maneuver, in this scenario it would do no good which is why Im asking

Thx in advance.

wow, i huff and puffed, and in the bathroom in front of the mirror and sink, i reached to get water (all dissy and shit, thinking clean mout from taste and shit) and i for some reason or no reason, actually took a deep breath instead of drinking, (like spitting in the laundry basket, and having to thinking twice to avoid putting the dirty sock you were holding, in the toilet)

and i just gaged, (betting gaged is a word  ) hehe

i looked at my self in the mirror, think, WTF to do now?
even grasping for air was out of the question, and i don't know how much water i got in, but as i started felling really drowsy (drowsy?)
(and remember i was stumbling in to the bathroom fucked as a duck moment earlyer), so i say really drowsy, i 'lost feeling' 'thought'  "this is it I'm really dead?" (in norwegian)

and then came to my senses lying on the floor (kinda dreamy (like waking up from lucid?))

figure i fell straight backwards hitting the floor kinda like a "Heimlich maneuver" perform by the floor on me by me? :P hihi

It's possible to perform the Heimlich on yourself...use a chair for compression instead of your hands/arms.

that'll just expell more air, it wont open an irritated wind-pipe

i accidentally swallowed a big ice cube a while back. it slid into the back of my throat and got stuck a little bit of the way down. i freaked out and for like 10 seconds just stood there in shock trying to get it all the way down but it wasn't budging. i could still breath but it wasn't a fun experience. i knew that it would eventually melt and i'd be done choking lol, good thing it was ice. i bent over with my face facing the ground and i hacked and coughed with all of my might and it popped out.

i'm not sure but maybe gagging yourself to the point of vomitting or inducing vomiting however you can would be a good way to get that stuff out, but it may make it worse, i don't know.
