i think you are the first person that has EVER said that ...
why does everybody like floyd? because floyd is god and thats all there is to say...but you have to enjoy the psychedelic genre of music, which many people dont very much
its sad, it seems 90% of people today listen to either crap without the c, punk (not all of it is bad but i get bored by it very quickly) or techno--thats all (except for the goddam NSync fucks who dont even write their songs -- ya, thats talent alright). i like some trance but i feel it has no feeling at all. punk puts me in a bad state of mind. and (c)rap i just plain hate. its just not my kind of music. i probably offended many people in this post but im just expressing what i believe.
also, darkside is only one of MANY pink floyd albums, i can name a list of others which i like a lot more, especially for tripping:
Saucerful of Secrets
Ummagumma (fav. tripping album, though very dark)
Momentary Lapse of Reason (another great tripping album)
The Wall (not a favorite for tripping but a great album nonetheless)
Meddle
Wish You Were Here
the list goes on and on, but if you discover you dont like floyd, then dont feel compelled to listen to them. only listen to what you think is good, not what somebody else thinks is good.
ps if you like any boy bands (that includes aaron carter and lil' bow wow) then i have no respect for you. that is almost as inexcusable as listening to albums of elevator music which, needless to say, is a lot better.
We're all mad here...

I agree with basically everything Heavenlyblue said. Except The Wall is a great album to trip to. Scary as hell, but still great. But, uh, DSOTM is the greatest single trip album ever.

You dare insult Floydy!! Why I outta' ;-)
I don't see why everyone is so obsessed with DarkSide of the moon anyways? I don't even like that album much. Listen to the 'Piper at the Gates of Dawn', 'A Saucer full of Secrets', 'Relics', 'Animals', and 'The Wall' albums. Those would be my favorites. Animals is a REALLY nice cd to listen to while under the influince.. ;-)

I can totally understand not liking Pink Floyd. I think it's pretty ridiculous to say that if you don't like Pink Floyd you don't like psychadelic music. Some people just don't like Pink Floyd. I do happen to like Floyd, but I don't think I'm any more enlightened than anyone who doesn't.
Yes, 90% of people listen to Rap, Pop, etc. I am friends with people from the other 10%. I don't think many people who like boy bands are surfing the Shroomery, so I wouldn't worry.
Anyway, I find Tool, Radiohead, Portishead, and Meat Puppets to be quite psychadelic. Contrary to popular belief, psychadelic music is still being made and I actually prefer some of it to Floyd.
Here are some of my favourites.
1. Tool - Aenima. This album is amazing. Parts are probably too intense for some while on shrooms. Caesaro Summability opens with a reverb-drenched, screaming baby, and finishes with subsonic rumbling, like a blasting off ship or something. Not for the timid, but I must recommend Tool (Any CD) to anyone. The new Album, Lateralus, is even more detatched an trippy, but Aenima is my fave. Standout Track: Third Eye (Trust me this one rules).
2. Radiohead - The Bends. Radiohead is as comfortable and famliar to me as my own bed, mainly because Thom Yorke always sounds more out of it than I am. Well, usually.
Standout Track: Fade Out
3. Beck - Mellow Gold. This album is more trippy than you might think. The upbeat, comedic tracks are good (Loser, Soul Sucking Jerk), but the real cool stuff is the solemn, zoned-out ones (Whiskeyclone, Steal My Body Home). Good for coming down, when you can understand the words. The hidden track is especially fucked; it's crazy computer sounds, but it's preceded by a long silence, so it catches you off guard. Standout track: Motherfuker.
