Take a moment for a soldier...
    #3435393 - 12/02/04 12:56 AM (12 years, 12 days ago)

Most of you know someone who is not at their house drinking a beer with friends because they are fighting a war on foreign soil. My graduating class was 180 people and to my knowledge more than 5 people in my graduating class have been to war already, some have been injured.

If you know someone over there, please sit down and write a letter, talk about bullshit and how hot chicks are and how drunk you get. Any word from home can give some much needed morale to our boys and girls over there, many who don't want to be. If you had to take an temporary (possible permanent) assignment in hell, wouldn't you want a letter?

Thanks guys.

I know two guys over in Iraq. They hate every minute of it.

Another guy who was from my hometown and of same exact age (went to another high school though - never met him) died two weeks ago while partipating in the invasion of fallujah. Same age, same town - that trips me up.

My buddy I just wrote to was in Falluja recently. He is now part of the forces pursuing the insurgents north. I think about him every day.

Thanks for this post Signo, and thank-you to anyone who after reading this, will write a letter of home to a friend or someone you knew from high school who is now in Iraq. I was there last year and I know how much it means to get a letter from people back home. What is said in the letter really isn't that important. It's the fact that people are thinking about you that really lifts your spirits. I've even written letters back on cardboard MRE boxtops for lack of paper, envelopes, stamps, etc.

It's easy to think that the people back home have forgotten you and are just going about thier daily lives and don't really give a fuck. Even if you don't support the war, please support the troops. Like Signo said, most of them are fresh out of high school, so don't blame them.

They fight for the freedom of a whole nation. Isn't that one of the best things you can do?

American soldiers fight for the freedom of Iraq... like they fought for the freedom of Europe in WWII. I'm happy they did that and most of the Iraqis are happy they do it now(BBC poll).

TastySmurf,

the thread isnt about if the war is right or not. the fact is there are people there risking thier lives for you, if they werent doing it for us then we would be over there. they deserve our respect and support.

This is why I think it's good that they fight/fought in Iraq:

An opinion poll suggests most Iraqis feel their lives have improved since the war in Iraq began about a year ago.

A wide-ranging poll commissioned by the BBC in association with other international broadcasters has given a fresh insight into the views of Iraqis a year after the US-led war. Of 2,652 Iraqis surveyed, the majority said life has got better since the war. Even more expected further improvements.

Straight bullshit.  Honor the soldiers, they have little choice. (I got two friends shipping out to Iraq in JAN.) And honor your veterans of WWII. (two grandpas) But don't spit your fighting for freedom rhetoric here...go to PA & L.  You've never been to Iraq  or spoken to an Iraqi.  You also didn't cite this poll that you claim says that most Iraqis are happy with the US occupation.  Please do cite this poll that claims one of the most liberal newspapers of the western hemisphere says that Iraqis love the US occupation!  Check on your history of previous US occupations/interventions while your at it.... maybe you should check a non-western source about the invasion...If your really crazy you might even check a non-US source.  Unless you claim that western sources are all that is valid or reliable.  I won't bore you with my own biased articles but at least I cite them:   http://www.socialistworker.org/2004-1/493/493_07_Iraqis.shtml

If you have these biased opinions (I at least I admit have them) than at give us reason to believe you

WW2 isn't Iraq and neither is Vietnam so don't make that comparison.  Have your own opinions about the conflict but connecting two things that don't compare is either elementary logic or a propaganda dupe job...........

If you really feel that our freedom is at stake and invading Iraq will bring freedom at the expense of my tax dollars then please explain yourself.  If you can't convince people of your view by reiterating a "support our troops" bumper sticker or a GWB commercial than you have no opinion that belongs to yourself.

God bless out troops and to hell with our politicians

holy shit you read my mind while I was writing that last post..........

fair enough, but look into what people think of the new leader, HE happens to be a CIA operative. Are we really there to deliver freedom? (your cite is 8 months old) Give me an example of the US occupation bringing freedom to Iraq and I will concede my opinion
