lib cap ID and rotten cubes question
    #3430115 - 11/30/04 09:37 PM (19 years, 2 months ago)

just got back from a good hunt. found lots of nice cubes but i also found some cubes that i wasnt sure whether or not they had rotted or where just older. i also found another species of mushroom growing in some of the manure and im not sure if they are liberty caps or not.

heres the good cubes

the rotten cubes in question

these next ones i am wondering whether or not they are libs.
i found them in my fields in manure with cubes. the stems are kind of stiff and the spore print was dark bluish to black i couldnt really tell.

Libs don't grow in the same range as cubensis.

Nice haul of Cubes!

Those old ones look more old and dry than old and rotten to me. However, they are probably full of maggots.

You will never find liberty caps and cubes growing in the same field; they require different climates. The mushrooms you found are Panaeolus papilionaceus or similar species; they are not active.
