My Hyundai

I just got my first car!  I'm so excited!  It's a '99 Elantra, standard 4 door.

Only problem is that I can't drive it.  I don't know how to drive standard...but I guess I'm gonna learn, eh?  I was just sitting in it, loving it, and I decided to start it up, so I stalled it.

Tommorow I will have my first stick lesson.  I'm one happy camper.

Congratulations! I had to learn how to drive a manual after a few years of driving automatics, so I know how that is. Just remember to rev up the engine as you release the clutch. It is a bit tricky, but with practice you'll be driving it well in no time!

Congratulations! I learned to drive a manual on a Hyundai as well, it was a 94 Excel that I bought for $1.00, and it wasn't even worth that much. Perfect car to learn on though...just remember the slower you release the clutch, the better. it's like two motions - you let it out half way until you feel the car start moving, then you let it out the rest of the way...it's a wierd balance, you'll get it.

i learned to drive on a stick and, perhaps my view it tainted by that fact, i think sticks offer a superior driving experience.

sticks are better than autos by a mile. You will be proud of yourself once you have learned to drive it, plus the off exceptional control that you just cant get from auto. Not to mention the fact that youll pay approx. 300$ or less to get a new clutch if it fux up, compared to the 800-1500+ that youll pay to get a new automatic transmission.

Sticks are the way to go. Congrats on your first car Bom!

only thing that sucks witha stick is driving in a hilly city, or in gridlock traffic.
