Rainy day, awesome find!

In these urban areas, it seems very hard to find mushrooms growing naturally. When you do find some its quite a treat. So, if you were a mushroom in a city and wanted to grow on fallen trees and logs, where would you go? Answer: A sculpture park

Was passing by these sculptures today, and my girlfiend exclaimed, "there are giant mushrooms growing on that sculpture!" so, we checked it out and it was true, HUGE mushrooms. I ran home and got the camera. One had fallen off, it is now in the process of cloning  Prepared agar dishes rule

These were HUGE. Bigger than my hand.

And these were the smallest, little pins. Some under water.

The holy grail  They're growing *everywhere*

Heh, look like leaves.

So, I'm no expert, but on the little I know they resemble oyster mushrooms quite a bit. Took a look through a field guide and it was the closest I saw. Not sure what kind of wood it is, but its a very, very rainy day.

Enjoy.

lentinus? Panellus? Weird species of omphalatus? I really doubt that they are oysters.

nycomyco, in my field guide they did look more like oyster, but it could've just been those individual pictures. Thats the one thing I dislike about such guides. Sometimes they'll put a picture in that doesn't represent the way it typically looks, its just a cool shot.

And yeah, the sculpture aint that great. Theres some better ones there. Its a real nice log (and the mushies will agree) but the plates and eggs just don't do it for me.

cube, heh thanks, but the pictures really aren't great quality. The camera isn't bad, but its nothing special. Just a Kodak EasyShare CX7430. The pictures were all taken in around the timespan of a minute. I was in a big hurry and had to choose some okay shots. Plus it was raining all over me and the camera, and no sunshine (or flash used). I didn't keep it still or focus, so just about every single one is blurry.

Any idea on an ID? No spore print as (besides the fact that I won't be eating these) I couldn't bare to rip any of these huge things off. It was too nice. But, no visible spores as far as I can tell even on these huge open gils, so I'd assume they're white, right? ID isn't important, just curious of course

From what can be seen in those photos they look like Oyster Mushrooms (Pleurotus). You would need to get a spore print and examine the gills closely (to see that they are smooth edged, not serrated) to verify that.

Happy mushrooming!

From the bit that we have, its definatly not serrated.
