how much water should be added to 1 cup of rye?

perhaps i am retarded but nowhere can i find how much water to add to a jar with 1 cup of rye in it. do i need to add water at all if i'm simmering the rye? do i add water to it after i've simmered? if so how much?
if i'm not simmering, how much water should i add to a jar with 1 cup of rye before i pressure cook it?
why could i not find this question explicitly discussed anywhere?

Just simmer, strain, shake off the excess water, fill the jar 3/4 full w/ grains, and PC.

you can either do it like this, OR
mix 170g water / 170g rye in the jar, put the lid on and pressure cook. this is for 750ml jars. (different size jars, different measurements which i cannot provide)
try it, its the answer to ur question peace ohm

presoaking rye and grains for 24 hours is a good thing. It causes endospores to germinate, therefore making them more supsceptable to being killed in a PC. simmering is to add water. You simmer till a couple berries per spoonful are burst. Fill jars 3/4 full, PC, and if you can while they are still hot shake a bit (to redistribute water evenly) Then, once cool, inoculate, let sit till growth 2-3 days with liquid.. shake again and bam.

its always an issue with presoaking for 24hrs.
as this is clearly too long for me, since the grains sprout, id only advise a 12hr soak.
but as this is dependant upon many different factors, it may very well be suitable for some people. peace ohm

my friend has never had to pre-soak or simmer, just pressure cook for an hour and 20 minutes.

yes but your friend's cat must understand that soaking is not for the watercontent its to germinate other spores then the ones we are looking for. Once germinated the PC kills them, some spores can survive a PC but when germinated they die a boiling death......

What size jars do you happen to be using anyway?
If you are planning on soaking, which is best to rid endospores when it comes to PC, then you can add 200ml of water to 1 cup of rye (this is for qt jars). This is the exact measurement from the tek I am using at the moment. Only soak for around 12 hours as you will see the rye to begin sprouting nearing 24 hours and this is a bad thing.
When you simmer, just simmer for 45 minutes with more water than rye just to soak. Then rinse/strain and put 3/4 rye back in the jars and PC for 1-1.5 hours at 15psi.

lol, every1 thinks that there grains have LOADS of endospores in them. Either my friends CAT has the cleanest grains or the cleanest techniques. The cat has NEVER had a problem with grains because the cat figured out how to build a FLOWHOOD. With so many variables, however, it is difficult to determine what ruined what. But there aren't many (common) ENDOSPORES in mushroom culture. The most common are BACILLUS (wet spot) bacteria. So if green mold (trichoderma) shows up, sorry, can't blame endospores there, aren't none.
People say they have too much water---means bacteria WILL follow.
Or they say their grains are dry------slow, wispy growth.
that's it.

I dont know how many times you did it (lol the graingrows) but I can imagine just to eliminate the risks one soaks. And ofcourse there are more molds then just the greenmold. Uncommon maybe but why take risks?
BTW I know people who grow on popcorn which they PC 50 minutes, rinse & drain. Put in jars. PC 45-50 minutes again. Cool it. Incubate. Good to go....

lol, NOS482, I am just frustrated that I see so many people question what they do. Go buy "The MUSHROOM CULTIVATOR" and READ. I still love this site, but people say they search and "can't find it". Lol, the answers are out there. My cat read the book back to back and it is a great educator. I can't stress more. Learn how to prepare agar, isolate a pure strain, grain to grain techniques, bulk spawning, case running, pinning strategies, harvesting techniques, terrarium setups--- humidity, air flow (entrainment), lighting, and education concerning common contaminants of the mushroom culture. If I had the money to buy every1 here a book I would, but I'm poor No hard feelings to any1 here.
