 Bulk colonization method/process, how?

I read about layering the spawn and the bulk evenly in a tek once, but I see more mention of people just mixing it in. Also, would it make more sense to apply the casing layer after the bulk has been 100% colonized so that u can establish a more even pinset in the casing layer?

My cat does layers. If you are using grain and spawn anyways. Mixing it tends to have the rye fall through the straw to the bottom.
Spawn @ 25% to make everything colonize fast. Takes my cat five days for a spawn run.

Whoa whoa, spawn @ 25%? Meaning spawn:bulk ration of 1:4 or mix in your spawn at 25% colonization?

4 parts bulk substrate, 1 part fully colonised grain spawn.
yes add a caseing layer to your bulk.

Ok, and do you advocate layering as well?
Yea I'm definitely going to add a casing layer lol, I just didn't know if it made sense to let the bulk fully colonize before you add the casing layer so the myc creeps through the casing layer at a more even pace.

Yes fully colonize the sub , then apply casing .
Yes 25%(by volume) spawn to sub is good ratio , the more the faster .
Mixing is best IMHO , allows for more points of inoc.

i see no advantages to layering, but i do have limited bulk experience, I've always just mixed it in evenly, and it works good. i like to use lots and lots of spawn to insure that i don't get contams. i use more like half spawn half bulk. it is over-kill for sure, but i get fast colonization, and no contams.
wbs is the best grain for spawning, cause the millet is sooo small you get thousands of inoculation points per quart.

If we have
4 qts of bulk sub mixture
1 qt of fully colonized grain (spawn)
We now have a 25% spawn-sub ratio by volume (is that too loud ?)

nono i dont agree total volume is 5 quarts, 1 quart is then 20%!
So 80% bulksubstrate, 20% spawn in sluts example thats for sure..:p

Mixing it in definatly helps. If the grains are fully colonized each kernel will hold thousands of strands of mycelia. Separate them into as many individual kernels as you can and mix throughout the substrate.

mixing seems to be best with composts or poop/straw mixes layering seems to do fine from what i have seen but shit there has to be a way to speed this that shit up
