my friend of a friends brothers exgirlfriends room mates cat was just picking some aborts of its PF cakes, and she saw that there was bits of verm all over them. she washed as much as she could off, but she was just wondering if it is toxic to eat at all?

sometimes it's hard to get all the verm out of your mushies before injestion/drying, but i've never really had problems with it. i wouldn't eat a PF cake though, that's just asking for trouble.
i find it funny that some people seem to think those "gold flecks" indicate chemicals in the mushrooms like bluing does... hrm. nope, it's just verm. i had to give my friend a bag of "gold flecks" so he'd believe me. some people are hardheaded, no?

i once got into this argument that shrooms with with gold specs were so much stronger than once without. he just wouldn't believe me that it was nothing

You know in researching medicinal mushrooms and talking to people that grow them for legit established trade, they don't even let the mycelium fruit. There is a much higher concentration of active consituents in the mycelium itself. Thus it seems like a great waster to toss spent cakes/casings without trying to get the extra 'good stuff' out. What is dihydrogen monoxide that you mentioned, and would it come out in the mix if I threw in a bunch of crumbled cakes into an alchohol solution to make an extraction of spent grow mediums?

My solution to vermiculite is to dry them and brush the excess off, it's pretty
much harmless in small amounts but there has been a scare about carcenogens like
asbestos in vermiculite over the last few years... unless you're eating a quart
or two each day its not something to worry about.

it just seems like such a waste to toss the psilocybin rich spent cakes. i think i'm going to try to case my next ones and see if i can get more out of them. if not, the extractions will work but i still don't see why the harmful stuff (if any) from the verm wouldn't transfer. win some lose some...

Small amounts will not hurt you but one should be carefull when cleaning mushies . Tell her to use a small paring knife to scrape it off in the future .

I pull the shrooms up, then cut the ass end off with a knife.
Why mix all that delicious vermy bits with disgusting mushrooms..
Not really.. I throw it away  .

well, it sure isnt that tastiest stuff. i have eaten it before (dont ask why) and I am fine. kids these days... they dont know you can eat dirt etc. without "being safe" blah...
when i was a kid..... :P
