sudden problems with my casing
    #342256 -

i accidentally posted this in another forum so sorry for that.

i made a tray using Shroom Wizard's tek and at first things were going nice. i noticed that a large section of the mycellium became blue/gray (maybe a hint of green) in the middle. i think it is because when i lift the tray the soil cracks down the middle, right where it is. anyway, my first fruits came and they were growing a bit slow but things still seemed fine. now i noticed that the mushrooms r beginning to get fuzzy at the base and it appears as if mycellium is still growing on their caps. i remember reading that this is due to high humidity so now im guessing i should stop misting them as frequently.

now here's where im stumped. a lot of the shrooms have dark brown caps, stunted growth, and basically look not too healthy. i read a few posts and found out these r called aborts. could this be due to the humidity as well? also, that blueish/gray area (which i was originally positive was bruised mycellium) had spread to a few other places around the tray, and the green is sometimes more pronounced. im not ready to call it contamination though because it seems as if it is the mycellium being stained that color, and NOT a whole different mold itself. ive dealt with contam before and it usually grows on the soil and substrate as does the mycellium, and although they touch they do not grow as one with the mold.

does anyone have any idea y my fruits r now showing stunted growth (the largest ones r maybe 1-2 inches although their veils have broken) and what is the deal with this green stuff? any help is greatly apprecated

Maybe harvest the stunted flush and mist the tray with water/hydrogen peroxide? I understand straight soil isn't the safest way to go as a casing layer. Also alot of sucessful growers say the easiest way to develop a contam is to over saturate your casing. So theres the answer to both of your problems.

Seems COIR has been getting alot of attention lately. Its cheap, 100% natural (coconut husk fibers), and the gro-brick brand comes sealed so it doesn't need to be sterilized.. from what I HEAR the mushrooms love the stuff and the contams stay away from it.
