That would indicate that you'd rather do the hammering, than being the one getting nailed... -dripping with lascivious sublime-

It means you are not capable of holding yourself in a position of servant. You find yourself in the position of dictator, leader or slave master. While a nail is the foundation of structure, strength and the binding agent of life. Servant to the hammer but yet ruler of all. Without the nail, the structure will crumble. The hammer is a tool and the nail is the key. You chose to be overpowering, Which is the weaker position.

"id rather be a hammer than a nail"
hes implying (imo) that he would rather have feelings of power and control, then feelings of submission/slavery or perhaps feelings of constructive usefuleness....
im reading into it to much with that last one probably but oh well

Isn't the hammer also constructive and useful? Without it, nails are useless-they just sorta lay there waiting to get pounded into something. They can't jam themselves into the wood by themselves.
Then again, if you look at this from Skorps lasciviousness, maybe they can.

well i'll break it down to another little phrase you all have heard your whole lives
the hammer could a leader, type fiqure needing only yourself to survive
the nail well unless you have really hard hands ,it need help of some outside force to do anything,
("outside FORCE" -is that a pun, gitit haha that was stupid)

If every natural fact is indeed symbolic of a spiritual fact...
Then what facet of the jewel that is called Spirituality, would the natural fact that we are all of the same Blood, represent?

I've always thought that what is being said is, everything that exists in this world is here for a reason, and one may choose certain things in their existence, but everything is interdependent (hammer/nail). Even though some things may take dominant roles, they are nonetheless relying upon the subservient instrument. I think when most people hear this song, they inherently "understand" its depths. When a condor flies, it is supported by air- nothingness, but very real indeed. Very peaceful, very humble.

"I'd rather be a hammer than a nail..."
I'd rather be active than passive. I'd rather be doing something than sitting around waiting for something to be done.

For all you Bob Marley fans
he wrote a song called Hammer.
He said he needed "a hammer a hammer a hammer a hammer to ram them down."
