They need to make a combined agenda that teaches God created everything through evolution.

That ought to shut everyone up.

Its not only the hillbillies. Look at the majority of suburbs and therin lies the bigger problem.

Maybe we should stop corporate welfare, which wastes over $100 billion of our tax dollars, to fund better schools that can teach about evolution and not some loony "god" theory. Creationism is a religious theory. Schools are state run institutions. I seem to recall something about America called "seperation of church and state". But teaching something rational and scientific like evolution would be a step in the right direction, away from religion. But we can't have that, now can we? Because if ignorant folks will blindly follow a false messiah that's been dead for 2000 years and isn't coming back, why wouldn't they follow a lying shoot-em-up Texan jackass?

are you saying they're backwards hillbillies because they want to teach creationism? Or are you saying that only backwards hillbillies believe creationism?

What if they teach both ? Hmmm.
what would THAT make them?

Scary isn't it? And with Dubya in office, the fundies get one step closer to a Christian Theocracy. Soon the U.S. will become a Christian version of Taliban ruled Afghanistan, only with more money... :frown:

Sorry, but that's just stupid.  Yes, the Christian Right is taking over the Republican Party, but not the more extremist ones.  Issues like abortion and gay marriage may take center-stage, but I don't think the religious right's position on these is all that extremist.  Gay marriage has never been legal in the US, and abortion was illegal in many states until the 70's, so making these things illegal is not too extremist, even if it is misguided.  Christianity is not going to be mandatory any time soon, nor will it be illegal to watch porn or drink on the Sabbath.  It is regrettable that Christian fundamentalism is becoming powerful, but we are nowhere near a theocracy yet.

It's a popular belief that church and state should be seperate.
From the First Ammendment:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."
They tried to make it illegal to teach evolution in schools down south a long time ago. Creationism should NOT be taught in schools because it is just a religious belief. Evolution is a scientific theory, not part of any religion. Last time I checked, we learned about scientific theories all the time in physics, biology, genetics, etc. Why should we teach evolution in science classes and creationism in mythology classes? Because evolution was a revolutionary theory when Darwin first came up with it. Creationism is just a myth in some book titled "The Holy Bible". Darwin's "Origin of Species" is a good scientific document. "The Holy Bible", I've heard, is a mediocre, ancient novel.....

Oh, to be sure, you're right. That was a bit poorly phrased, so I apologise for that. I was thinking more of the long term (20 or 30 years) if current trends continue. And it was just a speculation and worst-case scenario. I truly hope such a thing could never come to pass, as I'm sure you do as well. But I'm also sure there are many Xtian fundies who would hope for such a thing...

The real problem is self-righteous people who can't see two inches past their own face and think everyone else is a moron.

Like yourself that assumes that I assume that this man is a moron? This post is obviously self-righteous and closed minded by reading it. The fact that I pointed out that he does NOT know how this universe was created does not mean that I assume he is a moron. Just because YOU or anyone else believes that Christianity is foolishness does not mean that those who believe in it are. Obviously people become Christians despite the fact that evolution is taught. If creationism is taught it's not going to change anyone's opinion. It's also arrogant to assume that just because you like a theory that it will be the only thing taught.

I was not directly referring to your post but to KOTTs and several others. You took what I said to mean the exact opposite of what I meant. I think it is self-righeous to judge people and label them morons because they don't think like you do, regardless of who does it.
