What's up all. I hadn't been to this site in months and came across the 'Micron Magick filter disc' banner. Seems very interesting. However, I've used the PF tek [in 1/2 pint wide-mouth Kerrs) quite a few times and am worried about the substrate drying out too much during pressure canning/sterilization using these disks. Does the foil work against overdrying? If so, then how? I'm blown away by the full-colonization times some have claimed using these disks and am quite eager to grab a few. Thanks a lot gentlemen.
Peace out,
OM

Are you serious?!!! What about the possible condensation build-up? So this little disk still lets the jar breathe? If you put the lid on the 'Micron Magick' and screw on the band, then AFTER sterilization, I suppose you just unscrew the band, slowly remove the lid without disturbing the cloth and re-screw the band? Thanks again NuShroomPharmerII.
Peace out,

I heard you cut to size when using the MM disks. How about oversizing your cut. Next use a TIGHT, lysol swabbed, rubberband to keep the disk snugly fit(below the band rim), and then screw on your one piece lid. That way you can open/close for moisture release/retention without having to worry about disturbing the disks. Sure, you may have to buy a bit more. But at $15/100d who the fuck really cares ('cept us po-folks:)). I have never used them but as long as the rubberband is on SUPER tight I'm pretty sure it would work.
BTW. If anyone tries this PM me and let me know how it works.
May I beg for a few disks now? Please?;)Edited by them_26 on 06/19/01 07:47 PM.

Check it out OM I cover with foil as regular and unscrew/loosen the lids a little then innoc as usual. I then ad another filter disc on top of the previous one with holes in it from innoculating. The original disc stays right in place an seems to be sealed in place by the sterilization process.
There it goes hope it helps. Check this post as I will update it with my results.

psilocybinjunkie: what temperature are your jars incubating at?
And to the person wondering about your substrate drying out. It probably won't happen. Filter discs, and Micron Magik discs are woven so tightly. Down to .3 microns, thats tight.
Point is, they're made to allow gases to pass through and keep moisture content. Water molecules are much larger than .3 microns:) If your subsrate dries out its becuase you didn't add enough water when it was first mixed or the seal isn't tight. The actual filter though won't allow for moisture to escape:)

Much thanks Lana! That is a tight weave. It is cloth right? Shame we can't tumble some nugs on 'em and snatch up some zero-zero. :-)
Peace,

If one were to do some birdseed in a quart jar how would one go about innoccullaattiinngg without lifting the filterdisk off the jar. Making a hole and taping seems like the only way: has anyone had any experience doing this?
