Sclerotia forming vs fruiting

During the colonization of some mexicanas on rye grass seed, some jars formed sclerotia and some did not. My question is.. Will the non-sclerotia-forming mycelia most likely be better at fruit production?

Yes. I selected my strains for sclerotia production and that is what they do. They fruit very little at all. One of three casings had four mushrooms. Definetly try and fruit not sclerotia producing cultures. They will still produce a few sclerotia in the casing layer, but will fruit. My strains produce large amounts of sclerotia in the casing layer, but few fruits.
These strains produced sclerotia on the agar, and started invitro sclerotia on rye grass seed, but they stalled.

Excellent. That's what I did. The weird thing is that all the jars were from the same isolate. So you'd think they'd form a similar quantity of sclerotia.

How many transfers did you do to get the single isolate. Each and every isolate I've done from that mexicana print looks different, some fruit, some produce sclerotia, some do both and some do none. Very heterogenous. Lot's of diversity.

Dropped spores on agar and did 3 transfers after that.

Dropped spores on to five plates. Each of these five were transfered to five plates each. Different sectors to different plates. Each of these twenty five plates were transfered to five plates each. I had a shit load to choose fromm, and everyone looked different. I choose from the sclerotia producers and transfered to ryegrass seed. Great sclerotia production, but poor fruiters. Gonna start back up looking for fruiters soon. Every strain was tested for invitro sclerotia production, but to no avail. Work good in casings.
