Ok. So I have poppy seeds. I want to grow poppies like a mofo. But I heard they're difficult and die easy? What a good way to grow a bunch? I know nothing about plants, do i need a lot of pots or can i get some sort of shallow pan type thing and make a flower bed thingy or what?! anything about poppies would help i suppose.

They're not that hard, the key is to do it outdoors.  I actually did a balcony grow this fall before the winter came :frown:

i like growing poppies outside...
mix a gram of seed into a cup of sand, spread wherever you like.
dump it into your mum's planting soil, gets even easier.

yes, make sure your soil is nice and thin. great advice on the sand. i always mix in a good bit of sand when planting. a good container to use is one of those rectangular ones.

" But I heard they're difficult and die easy? "

as long as they aren't overwatered or cooked in the sun, they'll do fine. the seedlings are very tiny and very frail. a single mistake can kill a whole bed...but i don't consider it too be difficult. it's actually quite simple once you get the hang of it. i find that once they get a couple of leaves going, they grow like weeds and at a very fast rate. sometimes it takes a while to get em going but soon enough they'll be very hearty and strong. just toss some seeds and let em grow. water, in the early stages, with a mister. and i like to keep them in the shade in the early stages, introducing them to more and more light as they get bigger.

as far as indoor growing goes...i'm against it. the potency is horrible, almost a complete waste of time (in my opinion anyway. others will differ). a window would probably be your best bet...though watch out for junkies and "heroes", thet tend to be quite the pest.

I've got one patch of ground only that has the right amount of lack of water and light that the seedlings prefer. The soil's not so wonderful though either, but still the poppies grow there. Like said they grow like weeds. Poppies Org probably won't take any new members again as it's been almost two years since they stopped. Yeah, bugged me too since I was a member but forgot my user/pass there and have never been able to recover it. Then it went private. Still, you can read all the messages and do searches if you need to know something, just can't add messages.

I'm growing some right now. It may be too hot for them and they might die but I have some more seeds germing and will keep going until I have a crop. I'll post pics when there is something worth seeing.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835)
