but adom, do you agree that we wouldn't need to "monitor" animal populations if we hadn't already decimated their natural levels? for example - i agree that if people don't hunt deer, many many deer will die of starvation. but if we wouldn't have killed off all the wolves/bear/etc - we wouldn't have this problem to begin with. mother nature was able to naturally monitor animal levels by maintaining certain predator/prey cycles... unfortunately we've screwed up those cycles, perhaps beyond repair...

I am against the idea of hunting animals for hobbies. if you were left in nature, with you having no other possibilities, then hunting for survival is ok. but why would you choose to kill a living being when you have so many other possibilities. meat tastes good? so what? is this a valid reason for killing a living being? I eat food for survival and thats the basic idea of what food is for a human being.
population control? we need population control for humans. so are you suggesting what I think you are beejay? at a time, there was a natural balance between humans and animals. with all the mass murder going on, and a lot of species being gone, this isnt what I would call the natural cycle. people are not hunting the excesses. do you think people go killing animals with the idea I am restoring the natural balance? open your eyes and come up with better justifications.

its just the stupid human thought that they are somehow above nature and therefore possess the right to monitor what goes on. do you realise what this has led us to?

Go veggie. There's no guilt or shame in mother nature killing animals, that's natural. But genetically modifying and butchering helpless animals and treating them as if they have no emotions/feelings is awful. Most rednecks are just like "Yippur! I done shot that deer straight dead, blew that fuckers head off!" or "I don't give a shit about animals, God put'em here for me to eat, yippur!". And it's really embarassing, because they seem extremely ignorant. That's a lot of Americans, and I'm sure some smart ass is gonna reply like "Damn straight. I love me some dead murdered cow." or something equally ignorant. But I'm not posting to start a flame thread, which this is clearly going to become. I'm just thinking out loud. And I was just thinking most hunters I talk to always say "Aw nah those animals don't feel nothin' when you shoot'em", but, how is this? How do they know? I don't know about where you're from but all the hunters around here aren't exactly rocket scientists. And I'm willing to bet their wealth of information comes from equally intelligent people, rather than say a book. I'm not hating on whoever made the post about hunting and whatnot, I'm just making statements that I'm sure even you can agree with. That's my rant. Peace.

well, i don't personally know Adom, but i think i'm safe vouching for him in this instance. not all hunters are drunk rednecks who just like to kill animals - some of them hunt because they believe that is a more natural means to getting meat, a more humane way than the way meat is produced in factory farms, etc... i have never hunted in my life, and am quite sure that i never will - but I just wanted to say that generalizations are always risky

hey 18 Im not the type to start a flame war over someones opinions. So far both yours and Banjankris are very valid points of view.
Banjankari Im not suggesting hunting for hobby, which you are against. I am considering hunting as a means of getting meat without contributing to the commercial farming. If I were to begin hunting, I would not stuff dear heads or mount antlers. I would however use as much of the animal as possible.
As far as the human population problem, I am very uncertain as to what should be done. Every idea I've come up with has sounded like some crazy Nazi shit and being of Jewish heratage I am no Nazi. I believe that we are over-running the planet and that sucks, but I dont claim to have solutions for this problem.
Krishna Your right if we didnt fuck it up in the first place, such measures would be hard to justify. Unfortunately whats happened is hard to reverse. The reintroduction of species is one solution, but its a difficult task to acomplish.

I believe tree=rabbit=human=fly.
I don't subscribe to the belief that animal life is somehow greater than plant life so you points are invalid in my thinking. You shouldn't assume we all think alike. None of you have any clue about any of the reasons I hunt, what thoughts go through my head or the decisions that go into taking a life.
Do I think the animals feel pain and suffer? Yes and so do I when taking them that is why I go take a knee at the site they last stood.
We've always been a part of the food chain, even when couldn't speak, no one said anything about being above nature, we are a part of it.

When you holier-than-thou vegans realise the grass feels the same pain as animal maybe you will really see the sacred one-ness that connects all. The spirit-that-moves-through-all-things is in our hearts, the trees, the cottonwoods and the deer .......
