Yes, it's normal.

A normal contamination, that is. Looks to be a sort of mold; maybe trich. Did this show up while the cake was still in it's jar?

Dog, it did not show up in the jar, however there were four spots about the size of a quarter that didn't colonize. My friend just scooped those 4 spots out and gave it a shot.

Actually this is the ONLY cake that looked like it survived a series of cakes (oh about 30 or so) from 4 contammed syringes he received. 4 syringes of another syringe were also shipped and were all successful in colonization that's why he believes those other ones to be bad. Anyways he thinks this one is contammed too..thanks!

actualy, it looks like it was birthed before it was 100% colonized, generaly
if it starts going green in the jars, its pretty early in the process and will
take over fast allowing for little to no mycelium to grow.

Ah, I dunno he let it incubate for nearly 2 months and those spots still didn't cover up so he just went ahead and birthed..no biggie..however, the vendor said he was gonna fix my friend up (second time he's said this) but nothing in the mail..he's growing impatient.

The ones circled in red are the ones my friend was talking about..more like chunks

Anyways, the spots on the bottom weren't even there before he birthed the cake, they showed up after..they have been fuzzy every since he's seen them. He wouldn't say they are greasy.

I wonder why the pins only showed up around the part of the cake where the surface wasn't flat? It's like the uneven surface triggered pinning in that area.
